    Installing Windows 7 from scratch

So, I'm putting in a new HDD, and I figured I'd take the jump from XP to W7.

Here is where the problem begins.

When I try to install windows 7, I'm stuck at having to load drivers for the CD/DVD room.
It's a brand new Pioneer 1910 DVD recorder, I've tried everything and I just can't get past this screen to load some type of driver. (Yes, I'm positive my pc can handle W7 on this pc, and I'm sure things are connected properly)

So.. I checked Pioneer's site, and tried whatever update drivers they had listed there, but with absolutely no luck. I've been stumped here for hours =( Help please

If you're booting off of a dvd with the iso image burned, it may have been a bad burn. Try burning to another dvd and see if that fixes it. That was a problem I encountered too

    Seconding the re-burn.

Hanging installs (or not even getting to the install page) usually comes from bad burns. I learned my lesson when I was burning ISO images of Operating Systems. Usually I'd burn at max (what I do with movies) but for some reason burning at lower speeds made better discs. Sure it'll take longer but you won't have to go with doing the process twice. Don't understand why but it works...

Try using CDBurnerXP or ImgBurn to burn the image, I find those programs are pretty reliable.

Well, I figured out the problem on 1 pc, I had to hook up my DVD room directly to the IDE channel on the motherboard and had no problems what so ever.

However, it is not the same story installing it on the other motherboard, with a 64 bit chip. my pc just hangs at a black screen, it won't load any of the install cd's i put in.

Depending on your Board you need to press either F2 F10 or Delete on startup

It will bring you to a special menu, from there go to Boot Tab, and check where is your CD/DVD player the goal is that it need to be before the Hard Drive so it boot on DVD.

Check in the menu for the combo button to change the item usually it's the + and - key

When changed make sure to save then exit and PC will reboot

If you have a large enough flash drive, I stumbled across this little trick to remove the DVD from the equation. Works with Vista and Windows 7.

Run CMD.EXE and type the following. Note: This set of commands assumes that the USB flash drive is addressed as "disk 1". you should double check that by doing a list of the disks (type "list disk") before cleaning it. If you have multiple hard drives, like an SDFlash drive or a Multibay drive, you could end up wiping your second drive using this command.

    1. diskpart
    2. select disk 1
    3. clean
    4. create partition primary
    5. select partition 1
    6. active
    7. format fs=fat32
    8. assign
    9. exit

Simply issue the following command to start copying all the content from the Windows Vista DVD to your newly formatted high speed flash drive.

    * xcopy d:\*.* /s/e/f e:\
The diskpart will have to be run from a Vista or Windows 7 machine, because in XP it won't see removable drives (there may be a comparable solution in XP, but I haven't really looked for one).

And of course, make sure the drives in the xcopy command match the actual drive letters for your situation. If you're not sure that the DVD you have is of good quality, just mount the iso image to a virtual drive with a tool such as Daemon Tools.

This worked for me a few days ago when I installed 32-bit Windows 7, and I'll soon be trying it again with 64-bit.

I heard you can mount the iso virtually and just install it on a new partition, then, delete the old partition.

might cause problems if you are switching from 32 to 64bit versions... can anyone confirm?
