    5 hour energy?

I've been searching around to figure out if there's any downsides to drinking these. . . I can't help that they work extremely well and I don't seem to have any bad side effects except for the occasional hot flash from the niacin. Should I need to be worried about drinking an average of one of these a day?

Some of the other brands I've heard taste terrible.

I wouldn't drink one tbh, I drink a lot of green tea.

    lolenergydrinks, placebo go.

Get good sleep and have a good diet, and youll have no need for them, same for coffee drinkers. No reason you have to be eating/drinking something to help you out.

Anything that is an energy drink that you guzzle to give you more energy to 'get through the day' is actually seriously fucking up your body's ability to regulate it.

I would stop drinking it if I were you.

There is no placebo the shit works. Especially if you eat a meal first. Good for you? probably not. I used it for a while. It gave me hot flashes from my skin flushing with blood and did give me some energy, true to it's word I didn't crash. I would not advice taking it on a regular basis though.

The hot flash and skin flushing is caused by the Niacin. Its a type of B-vitamin that opens your blood vessels wider.

The role of niacin in detoxification

It's important to note that this niacin flush is not harmful or dangerous. Some people worry about it, but it is actually a sign of improved blood flow.
When you get the niacin "flush", it's an indication that the niacin is causing small blood vessels in your body to be expanded in size. Many of your small blood vessels, called "capilaries" are so small that blood cells can only go through them in single file. Sometimes, in fact, that small capilary passageway is clogged and blood doesn't get through at all.
    niacin and capillaries

While the large organs of the body all have blood supplied from large arteries, a great deal of your body, particularly the parts near the skin, get their ONLY supply of blood (therefore also of oxygen and nutrients) from these small capillaries.

The niacin causes these small capilaries to expand - so they might be able to carry 2 or 3 blood cells at the same time. This is a tremendous increase in blood flow.

You experience this as a "flushing" of the skin, simply because there is more blood close to the surface of the body. As the blood flows in these areas, the cells of the small capilaries will also be getting rid of their waste products, and often they produce 'histamine' as part of this process. That histamine is another natural substance produced by every cell in the body when a cell is under attack, or is eliminating toxins. Histamine causes an 'itchy' feeling.

About Zipfizz Healthy Energy Drink Mix

I like these a lot. I just pour it into a bottle of water and it gets you so high, haha.

Zipfizz is designed with a unique blend of vitamins and minerals, but it’s
our signature Vitamin B12 that gets you movin’! Dedicated to providing
consumers with a healthier alternative to energy and sports drinks we
deliver an amazing amount of B12 41,667%.
Because Zipfizz contains no sugar, users will experience an
increased energy level for up to 4 - 6 hours with out the sudden
"crash" associated with other energy drinks.
I can attest to this part. There really is no crash. You just level off. Its my favorite energy supplement because there is no sugar, which can really fuck with your kidneys in the large amounts found in most energy drinks.

FAQ - Zipfizz Healthy Energy Drink Mix

    WHAT’S IN IT?
    Zipfizz contains 25 nutritional ingredients:
9 VITAMINS: vitamins C, E, all the Bs, and folate
8 MINERALS: potassium, magnesium, calcium, zinc, selenium, manganese, chromium, sodium
    ELECTROLYTES: magnesium, potassium
    AMINO ACIDS: arginine, taurine
ANTIOXIDANTS: green tea extract, vitamins C and E
THE 4 G’S: Grape seed extract, Ginger, Green tea and Ginseng

    DOES IT HAVE CAFFEINE?
Yes. It has 100 mgs of caffeine from natural sources of green tea and Guarana. That’s
about one-fourth the caffeine in a Tall Starbucks coffee (375 mg) and less than two
    Excedrin tablets (130 mg).

    HOW IS IT SWEETENED?
Zipfizz contains no sugar. With only 10 calories, it is sweetened with Xylitol (pronounced
“Zy-le-tall”) and Sucralose. Xylitol is a naturally occurring, low-calorie sugar substitute
found in berries, fruits and birch bark. Many dentists recommend chewing Xylitol gum for
good dental health. The average person produces 6-10 grams a day of Xylitol, it is a by-
    product of sugar metabolism.

THERE SEEMS TO BE A LOT OF VITAMIN B-12. IS THIS DANGEROUS?
Vitamin B-12 is a water-soluble vitamin. With these types of vitamins the digestive tract
absorbs what it needs and gets rid of any excess. B-12 injections, with higher levels
than this, are a commonly used healthcare treatment and are even reimbursed by some
    health insurers.

Only downside to the 5 hour stuff is that it contains a small amount of Fen-phen. There used to be a diet supplement that had a larger dosage which causes serious heart conditions and I think ulcers. I used to use 5 hour, but it gave me chest pains so I gave it up. Unless you have a history of heart problems, I doubt that there's any real side affects. Long term may be a different story.

This. I had one to give me a boost on an especially long drive (12+ hours in one sitting) and it made me more sick than I have ever been in my life. After the initial vomiting, couldn't stop the shaking or the alleviate the intense queasiness for hours. Pretty much benched me for the night.
