Maryann's a Maenad. They were worshipers of Bacchus, and yes there was a Maenad in the books.
Did anything else think it was funny that adorable doggie Sam still had Sam's shirt on when she forcibly caused him to shift? LOL

My guess was that Maryann was a werewolf (iirc in Supernatural werewolves eat the hearts of their victims) which would make her a more powerful "shapeshifting dog" and thus able to control Sam's powers since he's mostly aligned with dogs. But reading the wiki on maenad's she sure seems to fit that description and would explain the greek mythology stuff she has around her house.
I didn't actually get into this show until I read this thread, but just downloaded and watched all that is out. I don't read books, but I'm enjoying the series. I think being on HBO lets them be a real show, unlike other similar shows and keep up with the gore and sex to create a more "realistic" atmosphere.
I hate Jason. I mean, the actor is good and I can appreciate his place in the story but fuck everything he is is an annoyance to me. Especially now, as a Christian lots of other "Christians" annoy me, especially the ones portrayed in the Church he is in. I can fully believe such a thing could exist and it annoys me. Granted, tackling would be a no-no-no in any circumstance and the lyrics of that girls music were a bit sketchy for a church camp, but still most everything else is believable.
I do enjoy Lafayette's character, though he jumps around quite a bit, probably just because since he's maybe the 6th most important character on the show (Sookie, Bill, Tara, Jason, Sam...?) we don't get to see all his scenes and how he's thinking. I hope he continues to be around.
Can't wait to see what else is going to appear. Vampires, shapeshifters and maened's so far? I'm betting a werewolf is around and kinda surprised the demons were false, though wouldn't be surprised if it comes back they actually weren't. And while I don't normally like nudity all the time, since it fits in the storyline I sure don't mind seeing titties every episode.
Well, so far we've seen vampires, who are "out of the coffin" in TB, and Sam. But yes, there are other things, like:
Spoiler: show
I didn't mean to imply Sam was a weredog/wolf, I know what he is, that was explained fairly well in the show. I just mean that I'm pretty sure a werewolf is in S2 as the "big villain" as Ms. Jeannette seems to have been killed by one.
I love all forms of fantasy, so I think I'll enjoy this show as long as it stays true to having a real plot, unlike so many other fantasy shows that turn into total shit after a few seasons (or only 1!)
Yeah I know the whole werewolves take the heart in Supernatural, but that isn't something in the books TB was based on, but maybe they have adopted it. Since they didn't kill Lafayette like they did in the books, I don't know if the killer will be the same as who killed Lafayette or if it will be something/someone else.
I really like this show. Its a good thing they have it online because I don't have HBO. Its probably only me but Tara and Sam annoy me sometimes. They seem to be both so indecisive. lol
I can't wait for next week!
From chatting with my friend who has read the books, Ms Jeanette (the fake ass voodoo lady who was killed) wasnt in the books either. So I think it was a nice swerve on the writers' part of having the body be hers instead of Lafayette. Theres actually a fair share from what my friend was telling me thats different....
Eric, not Bill, killed the native american vampire in Fangtasia.
No Jessica at all.
Renee wasnt killed and goes to jail.
Its good when a series follows the books they are based off of but there are also times where deviating from the books can also lead to new and interesting stories. If ppl wanted to watch a movie or TV show based off of a book word for word, then Watchmen would have been a hit instead of the flop that it was.
Yeah, I haven't read the books, but appreciate they are deviating. Not killingwas a good start.Spoiler: show
The books are also solely from Sookie's PoV, so you know nothing that she doesn't see first hand. It's a different approach and is one of the main reasons the book vs show are so different. I mean the show is using the source material as a guide, but it's almost like an alternative take on the books (w/I think is good). Lafetta and Eric are great characters, among others, and I really hope Lafette is turned Vampire because that has soo much awesome potential.
My only concern w/ the show, regardless of how awesome it is, is that w/having so many "main" characters now I hope it doesn't turn into a slideshow type thing. Anybody know how many episodes are in this season?
Watched S02 EP2 last night, thought it was even better than the season opener, def. lots of questions raised. Eagerly awaiting next weeks ep.
I thought episode 2 was pretty good.
I liked when Eric asked is there was blood in his hair.
I need to go back and watch S1 now. Just saw the latest ep sunday night I guess, the one ending at jessica's house. I think I saw part of the S1 E1 and thought wtf is this shit, but after watching this other episode I think I could like it. When I saw Sookie I was like "WHERE THE HELL HAVE I SEEN HER BEFORE?" lol I couldn't remember xmen to save my life. Funny as hell when the black guy (dunno his name) got shot.
Great f'kin episode last night.. that old nurse lady kicked ass!
Awesome episode was awesome, I enjoyed it more then last weeks. I think Sookie is getting a little bit whiny at times, but that's just how she is written in the books (in part), so its forgiven by me. It just me, or are the side characters stories becoming better and better?
You know Jason is gonna hook up w/the wife lol, I thought it was gonna happen this past episode. The preview for next episode makes it seem like a vamp attack's the camp, but the background dead guy looked like it was fake, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was staged. But either way will be cool to watch Jason go psycho again :D
I'm really liking Jessica more and more each episode. And was nice to see Hyott (sp) finally find a gf(?)... I'll be pissed if Bill is all like "you can't see him" and is a dick like he usually is to her. Though w/ him and Sookie being in Dallas for most of the season, I don't think he can do anything about it :D.
The whole scene w/ the healer lady and Sookie was soo gross, holy shit at her putting a finger underneath Sookie's skin & dragging it around... ewwww T_T
And /emo at no episode next week
Wtf was that thing with the bull horns that attacked Sookie?
I wanted Lafayette to be a vampire. Maybe there's still a chance later on.
