I got a 3 month membership on Sunday, just in anticipation of this. Now I will actually have to make room somehow on my 60GB machine for even one of those. Only have 9GB or so right now.

Alright so with PS Plus you can play all of these games within your subscription but when it expires you can't play, if you renew again you can play and redownload them again if they were deleted. Is this correct?
Also do you only get access to free PS Plus games that were available during your subscription periods?
Did they say how long LBP2 will be there? Can't download till 1-2 weeks so hope it will still be there
Renewing your subscription should let you reactivate the license on the games that expire yet. As for getting access to the games, you have to 'purchase' them while they're marked as free for PS+ during their typical 2-week/1-month period that they're free for PS+.
This is also one of the reasons I'm annoyed at Sony. Steam? Can buy games over the web. 360? Can also buy games over the web. PS3? Well you're just fucked aren't ya.
I would assume they're a full month, usually they state otherwise.
[EDIT] Jesus christ, that's a good whole 70gb of games. Guess I'll leave my PS3 on overnight downloading all that.
First question, yes, that is all correct.
Second question confuses me a bit, I think... Most free content is only offered for a set period of time. Example, when I signed up on Saturday I downloaded Rock of Ages and Trine 2 for free. I can play those for as long as I have my membership. I do not know if they removed those from the + offerings today when they put all this new glorious free stuff up, but if they did then yes. You can not get those for free any longer. That is how I understand it. If I don't download (or at LEAST get them in my Download Queue like I did with the two free PS1 Castlevania offerings on Sat.) then I can't get them later on. They add and remove stuff each week.
If that is even what you mean...
You got the second question right. Thanks, both of you, especially about the "purchase" part.
Plus items change at the end of every month, so yes, LBP2 and all the other stuff should be available until the end of the month.
And even if you can't download it right away, as long as you have access to the PSN Store, you can just "purchase" it for free, then download it whenever you want it or have room on your HD for it. I have plenty of things flagged as purchased on my account from PS+ that I've yet to download.
If it shows up in your download list, you're good to go.
A shame Sony still hasn't updated the download list portion of the store. I got a giant list of 500+ items, so if this PS3 ever dies, it'd be faster for me to just search out the specific items via the normal store to redownload than the list. Wouldn't kill them to let you sort that list by game or alphabetical order, rather than 'date it was release/updated on PSN'.
Yeah that is pretty horribad. Some people have launch systems that have massive download lists, like you it sounds like, that are just nasty to get through.
Yeah, mine's over seven or eight hundred, doing a full data transfer from my old fat into a new slim apparently transferred the old download list too. I'm waiting to see what happens after I top 999, and if it keeps counting or starts dropping items off the list.
Download list is tied to your PSN account as it should be. A shame the PS3 still has an assbackwards means of backing-up data though.
Would it hurt them that much for mobile accounts on USB sticks along with a mass-save copy function? The built-in backup system (which is FAT32 only, encrypts the files, and has trouble seeing partitions on a drive...and may possibly corrupt during the backup process) is an all-or-nothing approach, which in my case would be 280gb due to DLC and game installs currently on. So many stupid little things wrong with PS3 that 360 has no issue with in comparison.
Not to mention it won't restore any copy-protected shit if it's not back to the same PS3, meaning if you bought a new one due to your old one dying, you're fucked into having to redownload everything, along with losing saves for the likes of Dark Souls and almost all games with a competitive multiplayer component.
Odd. I thought I read that as long as you added PS+ content to your cart, you could still download it later, ie. after the free period had passed. No Castlevanias in my Cart =( So for these large ass downloads, I actually have to download them and then delete them to 'save' them past this month's free period if I ever want them later? Or am I completely wrong here?
Your cart only remains for that session of being in the Store, you have to click Accept on it to the point where it gives you the option to Download them (where it shows the filesizes also), and then you can back out as that'll be the point where they're added to your download history.
I question why Sony couldn't just make it more sophisticated and just auto-add everything to your account if you're subscribed at any point during the current offers, but I feel they require you to 'opt in' to downloading them so they can tally how many licenses they need....and possibly how much to pay the publishers involved for however they handle the contracts for PS+.
Just figured that out. Oops. Yeah, you click Download, then just back out before actually starting the download. Then it will be in your Download history. (For anyone else that may want that info I should have tested on Saturday =P)
If you use the system to system transfer then there's no issue with copy protected saves, transfers them just fine and loads without any problems. But yeah, in general they could do to make the copy protected stuff a little less rigid, and give people some more flexible options to move it to a new system.
Is Xbox live doing anything like this?
Think I'm about to get a year subscription for this holy crap
As far as PSN news go, seems PS+ cloud storage getting bumped up to 1gb from 150mb.
About time too, game saves are just getting too big nowadays for 150mb to cut it unlike PSX/PS2 era where anything larger than 100kb was blasphemous. I'll actually be able to use it for something besides backing up copy-protected games now.
