International publisher of video games, 505 Games, has today announced it will be bringing the independent block-building blockbuster Terraria to Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network.

Originally released in 2011 on PC by creator-developer Andrew Spinks' Re-logic studio; Terraria is a side-scrolling, action-adventure sandbox game, with an emphasis on crafting and exploration set in vast and vibrant worlds. It has received universal acclaim from media and fans alike – 1.6 million "Terrarians" have struck out on their own adventures since release.

With a vast array of materials and items to collect, Terraria is far more than a mere block building game, gamers experience is limited only by their own imaginations; the world really is yours to shape and explore.

"The block-building genre has taken the world by storm and Terraria has garnered a massive following through its increased focus on adventure and discovery." said Tim Woodley, Head of Global Brand for 505 Games. "We're looking forward to bringing an already hugely successful experience to a brand new console audience and we can't wait for the existing Terraria fan base to experience all-new content".

Fans of Natsume's charming life sims will get a dual-serving of PS2 classics to grab from the US PS Store this week.

Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life Special Edition was the enhanced PS2 version of the GameCube game of the same name (minus the 'Special Edition' bit obviously), and lets you live life on a farm, get married, have a kid and generally have a merry old time.

The lesser known River King: A Wonderful Journey also from Natsume is a 'socially oriented fishing RPG', you go on a quest to catch the elusive 'River King' fish, working your way up from basic gear to all the smartest fishing tackle a little anime fisherman could ever want.

They arrive on the US PS Store tomorrow, along with Borderlands 2, Jet Set Radio, F1 2012 and a Resident Evil 6 demo, to name a few of the highlights.

On the PlayStation Network, NiGHTS and Sonic Adventure 2 will be available on October 2 for $9.99 USD, and available October 5 for 800 Microsoft Points on Xbox LIVE Arcade for the Xbox 360.

PSN Store reboot going live on October 17th in Europe and October 23rd in NA

According to a PS Blog rep, it's built on HTML5, which'll allow them to actually change shit under the hood without requiring a PS3 firmware update. Also, no change to the download list as things stand, which is poppycock as it's easily the weakest point of the Store.


Hope the revamp means no more waiting 3-5 seconds after adding something to cart, before you're allowed to continue navigating the store.

Sony's exciting new-look PlayStation Store has gone live in Europe today ... before breaking almost instantly. Although some users are successfully navigating the refurbished store, others are experiencing slow loading, and an inability to add funds to their wallet.

"The speed will improve greatly over the next 24 hours or so as launch day creases are ironed out," announced Sony on its Twitter. "For anyone having trouble adding funds to your wallet on the new Store - apologies, this issue will be fixed in the next couple of hours."

Other reported issues are Plus members not being recognized as such, and downloads simply not working. Hardly a fantastic start, but hopefully the teething troubles will be fixed before too long.

Maybe it's not for the PSN update..

Sony’s new PlayStation Store launched in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand earlier this week, but was taken down for repairs after reports of several issues and inconveniences. While many of these issues have been resolved, according to Sony, the company has decided to postpone the October 23 launch of the new store in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Brazil. This is “to be certain that you have an exceptional experience with the new store.”

A new release date has not been set. At this time, the Europe, Australia, and New Zealand stores are still down, as well.

Next Tuesday, October 23rd, we will be releasing a new system software update for PlayStation 3 (version 4.30). With this update we have made several changes to how Trophies are displayed on your PlayStation 3. The Trophy Collection will now reside under PlayStation Network on the XMB. Trophies that you have earned playing PlayStation Vita games are now displayed on your PlayStation 3. You will also be able to see your Trophy level and progress towards the next level while viewing your trophy collection.

By the beginning of November 2012, we will retire the services available through the Life with PlayStation application. In conjunction with its retirement, we will stop offering the Life with PlayStation application to new users with the 4.30 update. This includes the conclusion of our participation with Stanford University’s Folding@home, a distributed computing project aimed at understanding protein folding, misfolding and studying the causes of a variety of diseases such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s as well as various cancers.

We’d like to thank the more than 15 million users that have participated in the program since it started on PS3 in 2007. PS3 users have donated in total more than 100 million computation hours to the Folding@home project to date, and as a result, contributing greatly to Stanford University’s Alzheimer ’s disease research. Considering the contribution PS3 has made to the project, we decided to retire it as a result of discussions with Stanford University.
Vijay Pande, Folding@home research lead at Stanford University, had this to say about your contributions:

The PS3 system was a game changer for Folding@home, as it opened the door for new methods and new processors, eventually also leading to the use of GPUs. We have had numerous successes in recent years. Specifically, in a paper just published in the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, we report on tests of predictions from earlier Folding@home simulations, and how these predictions have led to a new strategy to fight Alzheimer’s disease. The next steps, now underway at Stanford, are to take this lead compound and help push it towards a viable drug. It’s too early to report on our preliminary results there, but I’m very excited that the directions set out in this paper do appear to be bearing fruit in terms of a viable drug (not just a drug candidate).

The new PlayStation Store is live in all European territories, Sony has confirmed.

The revamp was initially launched last week, but after speed and PlayStation Plus-related issues, it was quickly removed for repairs.
