Dear valued customer,
Your Sony Entertainment Network account was among a small group of accounts that experienced internet fraud. Our evidence shows that the fraud was a result of a sophisticated attack on user accounts through use of an externally-acquired list of credentials and not an intrusion on our network.
We have refunded your account for transactions we determined were unauthorized, and reset your account password to protect you and your account information. The refunds were made directly to the credit card or other payment options registered on your account*. This will appear on the financial statement of your payment method as a one-time inclusive credit from PlayStation/Sony Entertainment Network.
Unfortunately, internet fraud including phishing, brute force attacks, password matching and in-game scams are realities that consumers and online networks face on a regular basis. Internet security remains an industry-wide challenge as attacks become more sophisticated and persistent.
Sony is steadfast in its commitment to online security and protecting the accounts of its customers. We also strongly urge you to choose hard-to-guess unique passwords that you have not used before with any account and to always look for unusual activity on your account, including emails about transactions you did not perform, in order to reduce your accounts' susceptibility to internet fraud and unauthorized access. We also encourage you to use a valid email address on your account in the event that we need to notify you regarding your account.
