Am i one of the few people that rather dislikes south park? I mean, i did enjoy it when i was about 16... or whenever it came out but 18+ it just got retarded and annoying.

Everything is leaning from great quality (movies, music, cartoons, TV shows, etc) to literally stupid-as-fuck quality. They're not interested in provoking thought, making you feel, teaching lessons, or having great compelling stories. They're interested in churning out a piece of crap that will keep you paying for it because it's shoved down your throat so much you have to accept it.

That's the way the entertainment industry has been for a good decade or so. Less concerned with a formula for success and more concerned with a formula for money. If they actually tried to come out with something decent instead of trying to make money in the short term with shit they know people will pay for (and of course, people in this generation are too fucking stupid to know the difference between shit and not-shit).

All the cartoons and TV shows I watch were made at the beginning of this decade and any songs I listen to are from the 60s to the earlier parts of 200x. I do listen to some new music (if it's good) and I do watch some new shows (if they're good).

It's just that most movies, shows, and songs are so unoriginal these days you wonder if they just want quick money or good money.

Given the cost of production for everything these days, I'm taking a safe bet that they're going with 'what works', rather than taking a risk and having the thing drop dead in the hole, meaning someone who to fork up all the dough from somewhere.

Kind of the same reason how the majority of games these days are sequels, rather than new franchises.

All the best shows and songs were made with risk. They cancel far too many good shows and subdue far too many artists while in the limelight all the shitty shows (like Heroes, for example) and crappy artists (I'm lookin' at you Rihanna) get exposure they don't deserve.

I think what really sets apart old cartoons from newer ones are the openings.

If you've seen Ducktales, odds are you are never going to forget that opening tune. Same thing goes for Darkwing Duck, Inspector Gadget, Talespin, TMNT etc. Newer cartoons just dont have those jingles that get you all excited even if the actual cartoon was mediocre.

Megaman? The best part of that cartoon was the opening jingle and then the whole thing imploded on its fucking self.

You all have mentioned a few of the gems (Freakazoid, Rocko, etc). I'd say this decade has actually had far more diversity when it comes to its cartoons. No other period in time has had a cartoon like Samurai Jack for example.

Oh god, Max Steel and Actionman were terribad. Even as a kid I knew those were utter failures as shows.

But I have to disagree that all modern cartoons have fail openings. Chowder and Spectacular Spiderman off the top of my head have great little tunes to start us off, and follow up with some really great stuff as well. Though classic theme songs are classic.

I just wish we had more adult-aimed cartoons these days instead of kid's shows that try and slip adult humor in here and there. Unfortunately, I have to look to subbed anime for most anything of interest or art quality.

Batman Beyond and Justice League were probably the last cartoons here I paid much attention to. Now and then I'd maybe focus on an episode of Ben 10 when it was new, but eh... Cartoon Network is just background noise to me these days while I do stuff on the PC.

Dexter's Lab had its fair share. In Season 2: Episode 28 (Decode of Honor), DeeDee and Dexter are looking for decoder rings in their respective cereal boxes. DeeDee's Decoder ring was for the Puff Pony club or whatever it was called, and Dexter's was for Action Hank. DeeDee insults Dexters club using the decoder ring from her box saying its for a bunch of "I, D, K, S, C's" and if you unscrable it, it says DICKS.
