??? Gloves from Defuse the Threat

Ok, so I've been leveling Paladin and the Ice Gauntlets look really nice to have. However, I've done way more Defuse the Threat runs then I can bother to count and have only see one ??? Gloves, which of course didn't appraise out to the Ice Gauntlets.

Does anyone know if there is a "trick" to increasing the rate of which you are awarded the ??? Gloves?

Not good enough to waste your time for an intermediate piece of equipment. To answer your question, no there is no way to manipulate which ??? item is drawn.

Ironically, en route to captain rank long ago, we went 1/1 on the gauntlets.

In all fairness Treasure Hunter gives you a better shot at desirable items. There are factors crafters can use to influence their chances at desirable items. I can't really say I've done assault targeting ??? items before this recent flury to know if there could be factors beyond luck involved.

If all there is to it is luck then I understand, but I'd have to say I'd be lowering my intelligence not to investigate the possibility something besides luck plays a factor. Also it can't hurt to hear any anecdotal experience with people recieving said ??? gloves in case their is a common thread. The needless personal attacks are also funny.

Hes right, The only way to get things to drop is to Lower your IQ and gimp yourself past recognition as a contributing member of society.

I randomly bought a pair of ??? gloves for 30k in a bazaar once and they appraised to Barbarossa's Mufflers D:

If I ever see ??? items in bazaar for cheap, I usually just buy them to see what happens... and maybe I get lucky.

On a related note, I haven't experienced any form of successful manipulation when doing assaults to get a desired appraised item. As good as they look, they're not worth spending all that time and effort in getting them, considering the fact that if you used all that time necessary to get that specific appraised item, you could level your PLD past that level and use something better anyway.

This question was asked in an interview for SE not too long ago and they seem to not want to answer the question as if you could raise the drop rate.
My personal guess would be to just appraise them in Nashmue.
Noone would go all the way over there to appraise an item so maybe it increases that way.
Hell, noone takes the boat back, they just warp, so we never even seen that Almighty.A NM. We like to take the quickest shortest routes possible.
Try appraising in Nash, I have no proof that it works and I have never tried it before. There is 3 appraisal NPCs. one in Whitegate, 1 in al zahbi, 1 in nash.

I hate to perpetuate what is probably hearsay, but people have told me that items appraise better in Al Zahbi than in WG.

While still annoying, you could try going for Gothic Gauntlets, which aren't quite as nice, but still decent. You'll eventually replace either of 'em with Homam or whatnot anyway.

I'm personally about 0/15 on even getting ??? gloves from the chest. I've wondered if maybe defusing more bombs might somehow increase the rate at which gloves pop in the chest since I normally just go in a pickup and we usually don't defuse very many bombs.

I always think of ??? items as potential added bonus. If I get ??? items during an Assault and they turn into something decent, then it's like a little mystery prize and a small slice of happiness. However, I'd never do an Assault just for them since the appraisal process is so unreliable.

Only good items I've had from appraisal have been Assassin's Jambiya (1/1), and some generally useless stuff from Nyzul Isle (eg Mushroom Helm).

IMO the only ??? item worth 'farming' is the Divisor ring.

The assault is pretty easy and the ring is very nice.

Farming for mid level stuff seems unnecessary, you will level out of it in less time than it will take to get it.

his point was that random noobs get great drops while people who know what they are doing and do it over and over get nothing.
it seems that if you can kill khimmy over the course of 3 hours with only one person standing at the end the sword will drop.

Having done exactly that, I'd tend to disagree.

We got one (mine) on about our 8th or 9th run. We spent about another 100 runs trying to get 2 more, without ever seeing more than a handful of ??? rings, and of those, not a single Divisor.

I'd rather just build up AP, get items to sell, and use that gil to buy a Sniper +1 or Toreador's Ring, if the alternative was spamming Azure.

??? Items are predetermined when you get the ??? item. Where you appraise doesn't make a difference. When that initial latent weapon check program was released it was easy to change the code to look at counters at other items. If you changed it for ??? items, the counter displayed would be the item id of the what it would appraise to. I tested a few dozen times and it was 100% accurate.
