This should spark some good debate.

If only they were having a bible study we'd have some serious debating going on.
Gravel driveways are a nuisance and a hazard during rainstorms and floods. Gravel driveways cause the city street to wear faster. Gravel driveways are also part of a bible study, so yeah...
Oh Ohio, when will your wacky hijinks stop.
Country is bleedin' money, gotta try and slow it down somehow.
Ridiculous Ohio ordinances are ridiculous.
I get ticketed if I park overnight in my driveway >.>
Of course I live in a private country club where it is against the rules to leave a car/boat outside overnight. It would be fine if my girlfriend didn't live with me and I didn't already have my garage full. We have to park her car every night at the grocery store outside the club and down the street a bit. I can't tell you how many tickets I've gotten because I forgot, but it was enough to be called in front of the homeowners association about it lmao.
Home owners associations...
I guess the Nazis had to go somewhere after Germany was defeated.
Godwin'd in 11 posts, I'm impressed
QFT This was the biggest thing I told the real estate agent when I was looking for my house. I have rented a house and an apartment that had HOA and I will never ever do that again. It was the most annoying experience. I hate the audacity of someone telling me what color my house has to be and what I can or cannot have in my driveway/garage.
Not all of them take it to an extreme, it really depends. They're great for keeping the junkie who just moved in next door from making your block look like a dump heap cause he doesn't take care of his shit though.
At the price of not being able to park in front of your own house? Wow.
Thanks but I'll take the junkie.
This seems like it should be a zoning issue, not a parking restriction.....
Instead of handing the homeowner a citation to get rid of the gravel driveway.... the city hands out parking citations, simply because it would be easier for the city to get the money. Just have someone not pay the citation.... goto renew their registration, and have to pay a fuck ton of fines to get a new reg.
/sigh
You missed the part where I said "It depends"
I live in an HOA area and while they do have rules that can sometimes seem a little silly (giving me a friendly notice that I can't leave my trashcan out on a non-pickup day, because I forgot to bring it in after the pickup the day before? Seriously?), I haven't heard anything completely overbearing come from them yet.
Yeah the townhouse I lived in had HOA rules about what you could keep in your garage and how much of your garage you could use for storage and they had a rule that you had to park at least one car in your garage at all times amongst other retarded rules.
Some of the HOA rules that I saw while shopping for a house to buy dictated house color and fence type and other crap like that. I am all for keeping junkies out but people who keep their houses in good order should be told what they can or cannot do with their garage or what type of fence they are allowed to have around their property. This was made even worse because some of these HOA's were in areas where the property sizes were 2+ acres. I even saw an HOA on a 10 acre lot of land.... you couldn't even see the house from the edge of the property.
As for the OP seems like a total dick move on the mayors part to make a little extra money. stupid laws are stupid.
I will never live (own) in an HOA area. I tell my fiance this all the time. Sucks though cause that's like90% of California. Like Zoobernut said, you're paying HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS to own your house. And I want to fucking own it. If I wake up one morning and have a midlife crisis and decide to paint my house bright pink, then fuck off anyone trying to tell me no.
