You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

I don't plan on living in miami/keys/etc. At least Florida has some "countryside" with cheap living. ( I used to go there every year for the summer so I am not too naive :D ) Southern Cali is like one big clusterfuck of a city. XD Every state has "ritzy areas". Southern cali where the good weather is, has nothing else.

I recall many of my teachers telling us that Florida schools earn revenue each day from students attending school. Like students in advanced/honors/gifted help the school bring in more revenue per student. If the school gets closed too many days due to inclement weather, they start taking away early release and teacher planning days.

Sort of related, but in high schools, they (advanced/honors/gifted/ap students) are also the ones who make the school much more attractive by passing AP exams. Supposedly, AP exams bring in thousands (possibly hundreds of thousands) of dollars extra for some school districts. I might have also read somewhere that College Board rebates $8/exam from all the exam fee revenues they generate. It's also very hard to get out of an AP course after choosing it even though it's not guaranteed that you'll be placed into it.
National HS rankings are actually decided based on ratios of AP exams taken/student body size/how many subsidized school lunches the school provides, etc. However, AP exams are honestly the biggest load of BS to make money in the educational system that needs to be gotten rid of ASAP. Depending on your college the exams may not be excepted like you want or at all(example AP US History only being counted for 1 semesters worth of credit when it covers 2) or you may be forced to take an exam administered by the school to receive credit making the original exam and the money you spent on it meaningless. In addition depending on what area the exam is/what you want to do after college you may be forced to retake the general classes that the AP exam should have gotten you out of in the first place, such as Medical Schools wanting kids to take general chem/bio/physics in college even if they took the AP exam.

As a teacher - I'd reckon the odds of any learning going on in a situation like this are... naff all basically. God I'd be pissed if that happened over here - and damn you guys break up early as fuck - we go till the back end of July (but my cover work's drying up now).

When I was in middle school they pulled some bullshit like this. We lost like two weeks of summer after a hurricane came through. A lot of people sustained damages to their houses but we were still required to go to school. We only got two weeks off because the town I lived in lost power for that long.

We had to go to another middle school that we shared with three other schools. My school had the school from like 1pm to 8pm and the school wasn't even that close to where I lived so by the time I got off the bus from a 30min drive and walked home it was almost 9:30. When we finally got back into our school the school year was pretty much over and then we got told we had to make up those two weeks we missed.

Florida fucking sucks ass. It's where I grew up. I'm in California now. This state has tons of problems, but it's fucking Disneyland compared to Florida.

Don't move there, unless you like ridiculously high humidity, old people ramming you on the highways, nothing to do besides visiting shitty beaches with Man-o-War and skin burrowing bugs, and generally being bored all day long. It's where old people go to die. Are you old? No? Then don't go there.

It's almost fun watching the state imploding on itself, will be interesting to see what happens when a state goes bankrupt.

Like I said I used to go to Florida over the summer and I love it. Humidity doesn't bother me (the hotter the better even if it's sticky). <3 the beaches. Disneyland is utter crap compared to Disney World. also, I group up in a town of 4,000 people. I'd rather be in a more rural area then where I am atm ><; AND parents would be closer (and would be more willing to visit).

Oh, and my fiance grew up in Pensicola until he was about 9 XD. His parents still own the house out there, so if we moved we could take it over for them. >.>; Sadly, it's too far in the panhandle that there would be no jobs within distance for what my fiance does.

So, ya there's a lot of good reasons to go to FL, but again job trumps all of that.

How can you like the beaches there? They're freaking terrible. Gritty, uncomfortable sand, the aforementioned nasty critters in the water, tons of rocky areas, terrible erosion, and so on. I guess if you're on the west coast, they aren't so bad, but the only truly noteworthy beaches are in Key West. Everywhere else pretty much sucks donkey dick.

Agreed, but it's not like Disney World is anything special either. A regular amusement park with a better variety of real rides would be far better, and Florida has practically none of those. I didn't even get to ride on a rollercoaster with a loop in it until I was fifteen or so. That is a serious problem.

There is nothing to do there. Are you going to Disney World every single day? Do you like expensive electricity bills (as whether you like the humidity or not, you won't survive if you don't have A/C, literally)? Do you hate having a nice variety of restaurants? Do you love old people? Do you like to be surrounded by nothing but supermarkets, drug stores, antique shops, and shitty cafes?

If you can answer "yes" to all of those questions, I guess Florida would be right for you. Oh, another thing: almost every area of Florida pays anywhere from $10,000 to $30,000 less annually for women workers, and despite there being a significantly higher female population, they also have a substantially higher unemployment/poverty rate. I thought it was just me for a while -- that I had the misfortune of falling prey to a lot of superiors who really didn't like having women working for them -- but then I began reading a variety of resources, including census results. It wasn't just me.

On top of that, they love to put up all those "Abortion is Murder" billboards practically everywhere in the state, and you really can't help but be choked by the "pray to Jesus or you'll BURN!" shit everywhere you go.

But if it still sounds cool to you, have a blast.

Key West has a noteworthy beach? Beaches in Key West suck. They are small and crappy. PC, Destin, Sarasota all have better beaches than Key West. Although Duval Street is awesome the beaches there are meh.

I agree, I lived on Florida much of my youth and later as an adult. Hated every moment of it.

Rained every damn day I was there, and only when I wanted to go outside.

I live close to Sarasota and there is plenty to do if you know where to go. It also only rains from like April till July.
