Well, for a week or so my PC was experiencing very very frequent (Once an hour, *almost* systematically) freezes. FFXI, Metal Gear Solid 2, Devil May Cry 4..basically all of the games that run on DirectX locked up for a good minute or two straight. Sometimes Windows Media Player would even lock the PC up. So last night I decided ehh, something's probably wrong with my OS, so I factory-restored it and put Vista back on it, haven't bothered with windows 7 yet.
I turn on FFXI on the C drive today, and my character wouldn't even appear at the char selection screen, and it kept freezing every 10 seconds for like 2 minutes straight. So I decided to try to play it off my external HD.
Now the freezing has subsided a little bit, but I noticed sometimes literally everything on my C drive would lock up and leave FFXI (running off the external) absolutely alone.
I DLed SpeedFan to check my PC temps and I'm getting about 174F on my GPU (I do have a 8800, so I'm assuming that's okay), but I'm getting 122F on my internal HD and 122-126F on my 2 processor cores (Intel pentium dual core 2.6ghz). My HDD is a standard desktop-sized SATA HD (70GB). So I was wondering; are these like signs that either my HDD is frying or my processor is frying? Or is the temperature normal and I'm panicking too much?
I'm really at a loss on what to do at this point; I'll probably put a fan next to my PC while I sleep tonight but I have a feeling it's not gonna do anything.
