My parents took me there once, I thought it was the coolest thing ever, except it smelled really funky, like a skunk had died in there or something.

They wouldn't ever take me there again, for some reason.
Those damn skaters and pot heads!

    Long posts..

    From my experience

    Decks
Element: no thanks, pricey and since they have started using recycled mats, shit breaks so quickly. Took two weeks to snap one.

Enjoi / Almost: the shape doesn't allow for much pop and they too will not last long if you are skating everyday.

Girl/Choc: I personally ride and have been riding girls, the decks as well, for quite some time now. Love the shape and durability. Koston sig atm.

    Trucks
Tensor: I used to run Venture Super Light Lows, but switched to tensor daewons 5.0 lows. These are the shit; light and can take a beating

    Wheels/bearings

Never really cared. Black panther was what I ran when starting to skate. Bones or spitfire now.

Back when I cared about wheel graphics I would get some to match a deck. Now anything solid colored, and a 51. Ricta usually.

I'm with these element decks as I stated previously are light, have nice pop but wear down so fast, take it from me I've had 3-4 of them...some don't even break they just warp all funky and become useless...

    Boards:
For bards on the cheap get yourself a Mini-Logo from Powell. They may not look like much but the price is right and it's pop is absolutely stupid and they have a large selection of concave sizes and shapes.
This. Skating anything but blanks when you're not sponsored is retarded. Its just like buying a 90$ pair of skate shoes to skate in when you are just going to rip it to shit in a month.

EDIT: While people will tell you differently, I have only skated and will ever skate Independent trucks. I like the added weight to them (and really its not as bad as people say). More stability in your flips.

    EDITEDIT:
    GO SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SKATESHOP
THIS THIS THIS! Local shops are becoming a thing of the past and it makes baby jesus cry. The local one i grew up with shutdown a couple of years ago and i wanted to cry... Even if you can't find exactly what you want in there, fucking ask them and they'll get it for you. I bought half my clothes, shoes, decks and everything else solely from the place from 10-18.

Plus they are the coolest people you'll ever meet and all local skaters who know their shit and will help you out always if you appreciate them.

all graphic decks should be 45 +5 for grip if your spending anything over 55 dont buy it as they are ripping you off. most skateshops have their own deck and are probably just as good as graphic decks and you support the shop more than the company. i have a skate mental board and i love it especially matt beach boards (i support him because hes from portland) i ride venture trucks right now and hubba wheels i believe. i like my setup but you just gotta try out random shit and just keep getting what you like

Man this thread has really inspired me to get another skateboard. I think it's been 6(?) years since I've even owned one.

Also, what the shit at all the super expensive painted trucks and misc. useless shit?
They're not there to look pretty, and if they still look pretty after use, you're doing it wrong. Fucking kids.

    We're like skating twins.

I think I might have Independent trucks on my stuff now, but have used Destructo. Rest is what I have. Ride on \o/

    Blank skateshop deck
    Tensor or Venture trucks
Richter or blueprint wheels (usually whatever they have going as defects are what I'll buy. I don't give a shit about a print defect if it means I save £10 off wheels)
Bearings - usually no name brands, most of the time Abec 3's (high abec bearings are for washing machines, not skateboards)
If I can I try to get locking screws, so you only need the nut undo-er thingie. Fuck messing around with Allen keys.

Haven't skated in ages, was never properly serious (always a pussy about jumping stair sets and stuff) I'd just mostly cruise around, doing some flips and little grinds and stuff. But most of my friends are of the same opinion on skateboards. Printed decks are like wearing a plain white tshirt with an expensive brands name on it. It's still just a simple white tshirt.

That's possibly the most horrible looking Fruitboot I've ever seen.

Honestly that's the setup my friend who got me into skating way back when told me to go with. Could have saved a few on a blank deck though.

I would probably cave to the peers and have an Enjoi Deck by now, but I'm broke but my current board isn't. lulz

It's been that way for 25 years. The first real skateboard (ie, not from Toys R Us) I ever had was truly horrible. Purple Gullwing Trucks, lime green Powell Bone Three wheels, bright pink grip tape, black Santa Cruz deck. That was 1985. Being a poser never goes out of style.

I'm an old man, but I've been toying with the idea of buying a new board for getting around in the city. Is Black Label still around? I used to ride those decks 5 or 6 years ago, which was the last time I skated regularly.

Honestly Girl/chocolate are probably the best skateboards out as far as shape/durability. Thunder trucks were my favorite. haven't skated in a while though.
