    Win7 64bit boot from partition.

    I don't have a 3gig+ USB or a DVD burner.

My objective? Install win7 64 to a 20 gig partition.

I've got the unrared ISO on my c: drive, ready to go.

    Can't launch setup.exe since I have windows XP 32bit,

I copied boot folder and other necessary files to the new partition,

    what's next? Go tech go.

In other words, how do I make said partition boot win7 installation?

sidenote, I think my primary issue is that win7 doesn't use txtfile editable boot.ini

I think it uses something called bootsect.bat,
which I can't run since I've downloaded the 64bit, which won't run in XP.

Any ideas would be welcomed, I like experimenting.

Daemontools or CloneDrive, maybe? Mount it to a virtual drive and install from there. That might not work in your case, though, since you're trying to do 32-bit to 64-bit.

I've been looking at this and I'm thinking it's not possible the way you want to do it (I've been known to be wrong though...). It would work that way with a Vista install, but the Windows 7 setup won't run in XP like the Vista setup will, probably due to there not being an upgrade path from XP to 7 (or even Vista to 7 probably) like there is XP to Vista.

Do you have an external hard drive? I found a site with a similar process to the one I mentioned in the other thread. Rather than installing from a flash drive, you could install from another hard drive (maybe even just a third partition big enough to hold the installation files would be possible). Here's the site:
