Xbox RRoD - HHD question

Last night my Xbox 360 got the RRoD and I have a question on what to do next. I have a 2nd Xbox and was wondering if I used pulled off my harddrive from the RRoD one and put it in the working Xbox, do I need to reinstall FFXI all over again? How is the gamertag affected? I know with the PS3, once you remove the harddrive, you're SOL because all the data is wiped. I'm hoping that's not the same case with the Xbox removable drive. Please help. Thanks!

You can remove an Xbox HDD without any harm, in fact remove it and turn the xbox on then off and put the HDD back on and see if it is still RRoDed, that usually a temp fix for a little while. Also, how old is the 360? If it's less than 3 years you are still under warranty for RRoD and Microsoft will fix it no charge.

AFAIK everything is stored on the harddrive including your gamertag so you should be able to move it no problem.

I pretty much just dealt with this exact thing.

Everything moved over fine except FFXI. I got some errors saying that it updated incorrectly and had to do a reinstall. Gamertags and downloads etc all seemed to be there working fine.

Come to think of it you would probably have to deal with the registry for this to work since you actually install FFXI onto the Harddrive, so yea that makes since. It would be like trying to move an FFXI installation from one PC to another without the registry files.
