I don't use a tank for Lesser Colibri. I just treat those parties like a 75 burn party. Get 4 DDs, a BRD and a healer. It's all you need because they die so fast. If you're leveling NIN you should be gearing like a DD from 50+ ish.

Crawlers at that level are terrible to exp on because they necessitate bad setups. You're forced into getting a Scholar or Red Mage for Dispel AND you still need White or Dancer for Erase (slow WILL get someone sooner or later when Haste is down). So now you have two healers and you STILL have to use a party slot for a bard or corsair. Then let's say you get a Paladin Tank, which by this points means you have room for only two damage dealers.
Haste overwrites Crawler slow, and if you are already hasted it won't have any effect on you. Its also not hard at all to dispel maybe 2x tops per fight if you have a RDM and BRD. Poison Breath is lol, it even makes Big Scissors seem threatening. The only real negative about that camp is repops, which shouldn't be a problem anyway even at a fast kill rate.

Whenever I've camped there we've run out of defoliators easily, puktraps aren't that much harder, you can just do them as well.

Incidentally, with a tank who can hold hate off of good SAMs and DRGs, 61 and even 60 are doable at Colibri without a BRD. Accuracy is an issue if your DDs aren't using real food due to Snatch Morsel, but if they are the fights go just as fast as if you had a BRD or COR.

Not really relevant to NIN tanking these, but I wouldn't want PLDs scared away from this camp. It's not a 20k plus camp, but it's better experience than the Defoliator camp if you've got the right DDs and a good PLD.

EDIT: Poison Breath did ~450 to me when the Defoliators used it as their first or second TP move. It's a breath attack so of course it's a joke when they use it below 25%, but it's still a pretty bad TP move, on par with something like Sickle Slash if used early in the fight.

Leveling Ninja on Birds, I pretty much would every once in a while let hate bounce around, like say if there was a warrior in the party and he got hate, I would just let him chill with it for just long enough for 3 of his shadow's to be eaten up then take hate back, little stuff like that helps, just remember to stay hasted and don't get decked out in EMN+ because it's really not needed.

It's been so long since I've exp'd on these things, it slipped my memory. I stand corrected.

However, you're still dealing with a forced job situation in that you need a Dispeller and Haster, which means only one job out of all the healers that can do both, and that's Red Mage. Just try telling the only Red Mage seeking,”Hey, we’re exping on Crawlers, All Right!” I realize Scholar *could* erase, but Dispel and Erase are on two different books and two different addendums (which are in finite supply), and they can only but switch so quickly between the two. And yes, Acid Bolts work, but Marksmanship is not a 100% hit. The only job I could expect to land it is Ranger. Forced party setups with mandatory jobs are not conducive to building a party in an efficient, timerly manner.

And the Pucktraps are not that much better, if not a tad worse. They don’t require dispel, but they do have a Sleepga move that can shut down the fight, and require na-spells. What a hassle! Why make life harder than it has to be? Why not fight Beetles, or Malboros, or Bombs even?

Birds are so easy, anyone can do them, and in pickup party situations, it's better to set the bar on the lower side. Do you really want to spam "Dispel please?" Not to mention that Crawlers double attack, where birds do not, going back to our discussion of Ninja tanking. If you’re having a hard time tanking, it might be party setup, you’re overcamping, or fighting the wrong mob.

Puktraps are way better than Defoliators if you have a half-decent healer... fast Curagas and the occasional Paralyna, what a chore!

just my 2 cents as a Kikoku NIN and career tank (PLD) --

I won't ever exp with a NIN tank between 54-75, ever. Doesn't matter what job I just won't do it. If you're a good DD with a NIN tank you will suffer. If you're a mage you have to watch as your party suffers due to DDs being gimped.

If you have 100% A+++++ gear it can work but it really only makes you as effective as a shitty PLD imo.

Only option really is to suck it up and take the exp you get from parties who aren't as biased as me.

DD have utsusemi and third eye, mages have MP. A decent NIN puts out more damage than a great PLD, which is really the only reason you invite melee anyway(granted pld and nin can get initial hate off of puller to smooth the party out a bit).

The funny thing is that the room with both Puktraps and Defoliators can be cleared be a party of level 60, which is pretty much the best exp/hour in a bit (unless you have a crazy Lesser party at empty Leypoint). Did it mainhealing on RDM at 55 for a level 60 -> 62 party, easy as hell, just stay the fuck out of sleepga range.

I completely agree with this, except PLD will never be better than a NIN if the NIN is extremely well geared and knows how to tank with a BRD in the party. I've leveled both PLD and NIN, so I'm not just talking out of my ass.

You and I can do that, easy for you and me. But that's not guaranteed to be easy for a pickup healer you don't know, or easy to be learned by the guy that gets hit by Soporific for the third time. Not everyone is clever enough to learn which mob TP moves do which status effects, or be observant enough to see which players it hits. Have you ever had to spam "Paralyna please..." or "erase please" through the entire course of an exp pt? And you've got to do the best you can with what you can find, when a replacement is not available. Yes, Aydeewa *can* be done, especially with a static or with friends who know what they're doing. Then again, maybe they don't; they're not good at mage jobs, but they're doing it anyway, and you're stuck with them. And skill or no, a quick Curaga can pull hate from the tank to the healer, especially if it cures for enough HP; enough of them will get the healer killed. You *could* Cure I/II each PT member for less hate at once, but that's awfully time consuming, don't you think? Such being the case, i can think of other places to exp.

As long as you're leveling synching anyway, why exp in a dungeon? There's Altepa outpost or Yhoatar Jungle by Ifrit's Cauldron zone line, where squishy Goblins are plentiful, have no buffs or debuffs, repop in 5 minutes, and do most of the work for you by blowing themselves up (which you can survive). And if you do like dungeons so much, why not Garliage Citadel? Giant Bats have piercing weakness and no TP moves to speak of, low HP and DEF, everything you could possibly want in an exp mob.

I see a problem in using 'NIN', 'Tanking', and 'Birds' all in the same sentence. In particular, you were a bit premature for NQ Colibri. On top of this, barring High/Super Jump and Trick Attack, if you were able to keep hate off of the DRG at all on these then something is horribly wrong and protip: Its not you.

You should be in here complaining that you can't protect the DD at all. If your DD aren't taking hate once a fight and riding hate management timers then they aren't putting out and you aren't killing fast enough; the two are likely related to being in over your head at 60.

The other issue is that Pecking Flurry eats NINs for breakfast, but your DD won't have Seigan+3E til 70+, so you're forced to do something about it. This is fairly unsolvable unless you go pure DD NIN and screw tanking.

You could have them /NIN, but then I shall pose the DRK/NIN conundrum: How can one utilize shadows if their subjob makes them suck too much to take hate?

Sup gimped combat skills. Sorry, I hate skilling up outside of exp unless I have to (i.e, skilling up a new weapon or something).

Well, its technically significantly faster to EXP the most efficient way, and then skill up your weapon. I suppose if you flat-out cannot stand it, do what you've got to do, but as far as efficiency goes, you're better off worrying about it later.

    This, pretty much.

But in general, I dont even want a NIN or PLD when I level new jobs, the fail rate is just too high to get paired with a crappy turtle PLD or a shitty NIN wearing eva gear or one that can't DD for crap. WAR & SAM is what I like to use for exping as tanks, NIN & PLDs for exp PT should be ppl you know or from LS.

I've been trying to help my wife get to 75 BLM since she's BLU only with dalm and genie and the glaring eyes are starting to be noticeable so we've been syncing to like 10->37 over and over again with my PLD every time we can.

Best EXP so far is yuhtunga at 23 and dunes are 10 - dunes just camp right in the middle and pull 3 mobs at once np average about 14k/hr constant. Yuhtunga is about 17-18k/hr if you bring 2-3 BLM + COR (and 2-3PLs <_<) pull as many mandies as possible and gobs and w/e the fuck you want and let PL get hate on all and fight one mandy at a time with the BLM only doing -ga spells. Work your way through them and on 5-6 mobs by time you get to the last one its already at like 10% - just have someone chain pulling and watch for heavy ga right on pull and you're set.

Beats the shit out of Colibri even as PLD (unless I do friends / LS with PL and 3 RNG + COR)
