Get in these parties when you have the chance, rather than standing around with your flag up for hours on end trying to get into a party your own level, especially if you're picky about setups, and particularly if it's the crummy 65-72 range where there's really no good camps; worry about skillups when people are shouting to go to the Tree.

War/nins are fine, those that have the stomach for "tanking," anyway. However, it's best to pair them up with another war/nin, so that they have someone who can instantly and reliably pull hate off of them when shadows are down. Sure, a Dragoon or Samurai *can* pull hate with a Weapon Skill, but they are not guaranteed to have the wherewithal to so when necessary. Rangers don't make very good partners for all the running around that ends up happening, and they don't have much HP or DEF when they're shadows go down, so they lack the survivability that Dragoons, Samurais, or other War/nins have. And Three shadows don't last very long, especially against Pecking Flurry, so war/nins are best off with a partner. Marsh Murres, however, are a bit more forgiving. Even so, a partner is best.
Nice thing about *competent* Paladins is stand a better chance of tanking against Rangers et all, and they don't need the kind of pairing up that War/nins do. Can always give new members a /check before you leave Whitegate. If they aren't up to snuff, give them the boot!
