Wanting to give WoW a Shot!

Hey guys! With Rapture right around the corner for FFXI and me losing interest in the game, I've decided to venture into WoW. Currently downloading the trial (if it lets me this time... last time and stopped and I never bothered to try again).

What I want to know is the basics. I've seen screenshots (a ton of clutter, tbh and really hard to understand), but screenshots only take you so far.

Assuming it has some similarities to Diablo 2, I'm wanting to know whats the best course to take when starting up? What class is the best, etc.

Would you recommend starting on a PVP server or PVE for starting up?

Personally, I love to PVP, but since I know nothing about the game, I'm stuck.

PvP won't be so bad as it used to be back then. When you'll be leveling, chances are you won't bump into a lot of people. I'd say give the PvP server a shot since WoW has (in my opinion "used to have") the best PvP I've seen from a game. Leveling is easy and quick so if you decide to change your mind it's not too bad restarting a new character.

You'll catch on really quick, it's basic MMO shit, don't over think it too much. The only thing you should even consider really is the class you want to play, and even then each class is pretty unique so you can pick based on how you want to be able to approach the game. Maybe if you describe that we can recommend a class.

I played for about 30 minutes... was pretty rudimentary, but I got bored relatively quick because I had no way to communicate with someone D:

WoW is not nearly the social game FFXI is. You do the majority of stuff solo. It's a casual game. If you're hooked on the social aspect of FFXI, you won't like WoW.

Not gonna lie, the social aspect of FFXI is whats kept me going for so long, lol. Sometimes I'd just log on to chat for hours on end if I had nothing else to do.

Find a BG-forum posting guild that accepts social apps and you will a) have a small amount of insurance against gankers on a PvP server and b) someone to talk to other than the notoriously retarded General Chat in the zone.

Don't expect a lot of help doing instances till you're in Outland. An unfortunate side-effect of the new accelerated levelling process is that nobody does instances normally anymore.

And yes, absolutely get mining or herbalism AND skinning as your two professions. The AH can be learned in a matter of minutes and once you get the hang of market conditions you'll be rolling in gold (not that there's much to spend it on outside of mounts).

I'd go and quest while leveling professions and stop every now and then to do an instance. First one should be Deadmines if you are Alliance (Level 15-18) and if you are Horde you can do Ragefire Chasm (12-15) or skip to Wailing Caverns (15-19). I might be wrong on the exact specifics but if you're in that general area you should be fine.

Decided to give the game another shot, and I'm actually enjoying it now D: (For some reason, I enjoy games better whenever I give them a second chance; happened with XI).

I started a Mage Gnome (or idk Dwarf, I think?) and I just finished my first quest. I don't know how realms work... I don't remember where my previous character was and I think I lost it or something lol.

'm currently playing on trial and hating the restricts so...

Also downloaded the QuestHelper add-on... but its gibberish to me in terms of how to install.

Extract the .rar and place that folder inside your Addons folder which is located inside your World of Warcraft program files folder. Once it's pasted inside, open up WoW and right before you enter the realm with your character open up the addons tab and make sure said addon is checked active. (With new patches some addons might not work anymore but usually just leave checked the load out of date addons option anyway) and log into WoW.

In your chat menu you should see some stuff appear, alerts/welcome/whatever the addon says to you. If not, look at your minimap and there should be a new button and that's probably it. Set up your addon from there. : p

Ehh.. figured out how to install it, but WoW keeps crashing when I log in. I select my character, and on the screen where it begins to load, right before the bar is almost full, it crashes, and I have to turn off my entire PC.

Not gonna mess with it anymore... don't know whats wrong so whatever.

Make a note of your user name and password and delete your WTF (seriously), cache and addons folder. Sounds like theres a conflict in one of those. Failing that try running the repair utility.
