I liked 9's AP system more than the materia system for sure, but the Sphere Grid was probably my favorite level-up system of all the FF series that I've played. In any case, 9 is still my favorite of the series and I still think 7 is overrated.

I did the same thing you did about a month ago on an epsxe emulator. I voted 9 for no particular reason other than the fact that it's what I started with.

I went 9 -> 7 -> 6 (kinda) ->8. I just reached the second disc of 8 yesterday.

I originally wanted to start with 8 because that's the one I've played the least amount of times (only once). But the ROM for 9 downloaded way faster so I just went ahead with it.

I should have saved 7 for last, since I've played it the most and remember the story way too well. I wanted to play games that I never played or rarely played.

I then tried 6, but only got like three hours into it before I gave up. I just can't deal with the super nintendo graphics. Well, I can play chrono trigger just fine and that was also for super nintendo, so I don't know exactly what it is, but something about the graphics really really bothered me. I'll probably finish 6 eventually. I plan on going through a bunch of good PlayStation RPGs that I've either never played or havent played in a long time.

Fuck that, there's no way on a first play through you were gonna just beat Proud Clod without leveling up.
When he says you can beat FF9 without leveling up he means without getting ANY exp that isn't forced.

Proud Clod was insanely easy, even on my first play through so many years go. I loved FFVII, but one of the few things I didn't like was the fact that every single boss seemed so easy except Emerald Weapon (of course, I didn't have the underwater materia on my first play through and that time limit got me a bunch of times).

Anyone who says the AP ability system is good is lying to themselves... AP system is a dumbed down materia system that lets you permanently learn skills (thus making the already easy game even easier).

I agree. When I first played FF9, I thought it felt rushed. It was like they were trying to get a last FF out for PS1 before PS2. I really disliked the character design as well, so I never really got into any of the characters at all.

But this was a long time ago.. I was 13 when the game was released and I haven't played it all the way trhough since lol I tried to replay it back in September last year but my cd or PS2 was borked. When I was in that city uhhh Lindblum? When I zoned out from a hotel out to the main city, the screen would go black and never load up anything again. Perpetually stuck in that hotel.

slap your ps2 on the right side and it should get it going. I had the same exact problem
