Tattoo sleeves (the fake ones)

Id have to agree. Ive seen a bunch of tattoos that you could tell were just chosen one night without any thought. My cousins have some tattoos that I certainly wouldnt have gotten.

All the designs Ive thought up I have drawn myself (even though Im not a great artist) and have asked a friend of mine to redraw to improve the actual quality of the drawing.

The one tattoo I have was drawn by one of my good friends who is a very good artist though the design is incredibly simple. There is no story to it or special sentimental meaning or anything. Though the road trip we took to get tattoo's is a good story.

i see your point about getting tired of the stories. but theres also a difference between flaunting and just having. one of my tattoos is on my forearm, i didnt get it there to show off or anything. i just liked how it looked there. i have a couple friends that show theirs off to get chicks and its pretty sad

I just have to restrain myself to not get more for a while after this one is done.

My CO almost had a shit fit when I came back from Mongolia with the one on my throat...but it is covered by a class A uniform and therefore was able to get a waiver. His face was priceless though. I have a couple more that I want done before I'm finished, but I am very picky about the artists I use and haven't found one in my area that has the right colors for my next one.

I usually have absolutely no problem with tats, I can appreciate them. I love hearing the stories behind tats, if there is one. I've thought of getting one, but haven't found anything that I feel strongly enough to have inked onto my body.

The only time I ever have issues with tattoos is when they are just plain stupid, and/or not even actual artwork. I was at a party once, and some kid had a cluster of 3 simple stars on his forearm. I asked him why he got them and he replied with "It's because I'm emo and they look cool." /facepalm

Overall though, I think tattoos are pretty horrible. Usually any "good" tattoo would still look better without anything there.

If it is not your body, then why should you care at all what other people are doing? If you dont want to hear someones story about a tatoo, dont bring it up. I have never had someone randomly out of no where just start telling me about their story of their artwork without the topic already being discussed. And I personally never tell the stories of my tatoos unless Im specifically asked about em.

To OP: You get ink done for yourself, not other people. So as long as its something you like yourself, and you can deal with the outcome of having it, (in your case visible to the public, and your career) then get it.

I love my tattoo and I am not out to impress everyone. Yes I have something that people dismiss as simply tribal but my tattoo artist and I spent months over the entire design and made something unique. I don't necessary need to add meaning to my tattoos. They do mean something, but the bottom line is it is art, and I leave a majority of its meeting in that.

I think thats the bottom line, and why I dismiss hatred or disgust towards tattoos just as soon as they dismiss the tattoos themselves, is this is a form of art. Just like any other form of art, you either like it or don't.
