    Sorry for the necro, but apparently playing the game is considered RMT activity now. Haven't played for years so I decided to start a new character yesterday. I created two different characters. One on Caitsith, my old server, and one on Midgard to try and get together with the people from another thread starting over. Was good throughout the day. Woke up this morning and tried to log and I got hit with LM-17. I hope they'll at least refund my Security token. Never in the previous 4 years did I have any problems with SE.

    Of course no one can help and I imagine this Ban complaint will take weeks to 'look into'.

    Me: This is ridiculous.
    Agent Kim: If you are speaking about the software, then I would suggest for you to return it to the retailer you purchased the game from.
    Agent Kim: As of right now, you have not been charged by us for a monthly fee.
    Me: Cause retailers take back opened PC games, right?

    I actually read through all these banning threads and just brushed them off. Silly me.

    I love how they say to take the game back to a store for a refund. No retail outlet will take opened games back for a refund, they tell you you have to have the software company refund your money, as only they can deal with the registration codes and remove your ability to use the software. This is standard practice everywhere that sells software, though the logic behind it is faulty considering I don't know anyone that would buy a game, burn a copy, and then take it back for a refund when they can simply download a version with the protections already removed.

    A merchant's contract with a credit card company can carry a fine of a hundred dollars or more for each chargeback, once some threshold has been reached. I'm guessing SE has to have passed this limit, thanks to a combination of RMT fraud, flaky POL billing mess-ups, and rage-quit chargebacks.

    There's probably some intense pressure on customer service to deal harshly with any instances of credit card problems, even when it stemmed from their mistake originally.

    Thought I'd post here to give some hope to some fellow players that received the email stating you were banned due to a chargeback on your CC.

    I was LM17'd back in September, contacted chat support numerous times and they always gave me the canned response "You were banned for irregular activity.. We will resubmit a ban reversal review" blah blah

    Last month I tried contacting them again and received the same response. Today I spoke with "Agent Kim" Once I verified the Credit card on file she told me "Please wait a moment while I reverse the ban." /joy

    I guess its all about finding the right person ^^

    Now that I uninstalled FFXI I have to wait 6 hours while pol is updating.. man I cannot wait to log in! Goodluck all

    Edit: Just remembered I had around 10mil on the AH when I was banned.. wonder if that will be in my dbox ;o
