I'll take a few steps back. Explain to me how you will keep skilled workers with a longterm commitment to your company without some kind of incentive if your wages aren't already enough?

How do you keep them from going over to Smith and Wesson[sp?] because of competitive offers. Sympathetic management (please don't read soft) and a feeling of recognition for work done, a pleasant work enviornemtn can be a great thing. And hey, you know what, if the entire place is run by people like you, they just might enjoy their job so much that weekends are all they need to relax.

in all honesty, if my work provided me with a sense of accomplishment and joy, if I were in my field and improving things I believed in and getting recognized for it, hell yeah you can believe I'd take a pay cut and could likely arrange for benefits on my own with a private provider
