I tried using google but I can't quite figure out how to ask a search engine this, but can you use DDR RAM in a DDR2 bus or am I going to have to buy DDR2 RAM?

it won't even fit
DDR, DDR2, and DDR3 and not compatible with each other. On desktops they have different numbers of pins. They also run at different speeds. You have to match the RAM type to the memory slot for it.
DDR2 & DDR3 actually take the same slot - it's just a matter of whether the board is new enough to support the faster speeds. DDR3 can also run in either dual or tri-channel mode depending on the processor.
I believe there's also some DDR memory sticks that are the same 240-pin config as DDR2 so they'd work, but at this point if your board can take DDR2 you should just go for it.
