Church Hill being on that list seems like complete bullshit. Sure, the Hill isn't perfect but I lived there comfortably and rarely felt unsafe... and it's becoming a rather snazzy neighborhood nowadays, what with the old homes being renovated and sold for ridiculous prices. Lots of young white people living there now, and some pretty trendy bars and restaurants showing up, too. Seems like this list is using information from the late '80s when the Hill really WAS a shit hole.

edit: if the writers of this article actually bothered to do any research at all, they could have gone a bit more east to find Fulton Bottom, the real shit hole.

lol, my boyfriend pointed out that the data is from "local law enforcement data." In his words "hah, they're only looking at places the police will bother to go, that's the problem." Also, yeah why are Camden and Newark not on here? Calling bullshit again.

This thread reminds me of the first time I went to Tallahassee, FL to visit my best friend at FSU. When he was showing me around, we got to the "rail road tracks" where he proceeded to make a U-Turn. When I asked him why, he replied "Well, my girlfriend and I haven't really been to that side of town. It's actually kind of shady out there, lots of violence and stuff..."

I found it hilarious that my 6'2 200 pound best friend is afraid to drive through the darkie's side of town, yet my 5 foot nothing 125 pound female friend goes to school "across the tracks" at FAMU (a historically black college), and has never once complained about it being unsafe.

It's not just 'darkies', but there tends to be a different mind set in 'ghetto' areas. If you deny this then there's just no point in arguing. Black, hispanic or white, ghettos are more dangerous than other areas. and yes i do feel unsafe in my area, i've been robbed three times, my best friend has been robbed at gunpoint, and i've seen alot more murders than a person who isn't a cop should have seen.

Eh, Detroit is pretty shit. I find this shit a little hard to believe. Shit, I've had friends get their cars stolen in front of their house there. Not by like hot wiring the car, those fuckers broke in, took his keys off his table, and drove away.

But yea, some of the "murder capitals" aren't even on this list. I find that pretty hard to believe.

Also, why would they point out how many 911 calls they get? Real ghettos don't have snitches. This shit is made up.

Chicago Lawn and Englewood are dangerous? NO WAY! Who would have though... These locations are hardly neighborhoods, since the 4 locations for Chicago are both within 2 different neighborhoods (2 each).

My old roommate was from Cincinnati, I've heard stories about OTR.

"In March 2008, Kwame Kilpatrick was charged with eight felonies, including perjury and obstruction of justice. In August, he violated his bail agreement and was thrown in jail. His actions were deplorable for anybody, but Kilpatrick was no Average Joe--he was the mayor of Detroit.

Unfortunately for the Motor City, Kilpatrick, 38, is just one ripple in the area's sea of crime. Detroit is the worst offender on our list of America's most dangerous cities, thanks to a staggering rate of 1,220 violent crimes committed per 100,000 people.

"Detroit has, historically, been one of the more violent cities in the U.S.," says Megan Wolfram, an analyst at iJet Intelligent Risk Systems, a Maryland-based risk-assessment firm. "They have a number of local crime syndicates there--a number of small gangs who tend to compete over territory." " -Forbes magazine

we have tradition and a 1337 city council, i demand a fucking re-count

ill also add this peice of evidence marked Exibit "A"

I'm from those suburbs of Detroit and honestly, it's all rich white people and extremely safe. You can go out at any time of the night and the crime rate isn't bad at all.

Troy, St. Heights, Farmington, West Bloomfield, Orchard Lake, Bloomfield Hills, all are about the same.

Eh, that's not completely true. I currently live in Novi but I've lived in Troy the majority of my life. A short jont down the road and you find yourself in places like Oak park(Hence the nickname dark park... hint hint). Even in places like fabulous Ferndale I wouldn't go out too long at night. Hell, a friend of mine got held up by the oakland mall at gun point a few weeks ago.

But that's beyond the point. Detroit is a pretty small city I guess, at least down town is tiny. But 10 minutes out of down town and you're in Troy. What the hell, lol. I'm just a bit surprised that the people looking to rob people wouldn't cruise down the road a bit and get the people who actually have some cash.

When I went to Wayne State my freshman year of college I found it pretty safe, and it's located in Det. I think it's just very well protected by the campus police and nobody would dare come around there.

Oakland mall is so fucking shady, I was there once and never again..lol. Fab Ferndale is alright but yeah, heard bad stories of that. There are definitely some pretty bad towns but the ones named off in that list are pretty safe. Troy is pretty safe isn't it? From what I know about it, although I've only been around Athens HS and where Somerset mall is. That place is a fucking rich snobby mall.

Heh, I lived in the sub across the street from Athens.

But yea, Troy is safe as hell. That list was the safest cities in the states vs most dangerous. I bolded them because I'm pretty surprised they are that far up there being so close to some pretty shady areas.

I go to eastern and know one of the professors very well, she was telling me one day about how they offer escorts to professors to their cars because of the area. I get about an email a week about some shit that happened on or near campus. Never actually made it over to Wayne.

Don't really follow much of American news like this and what not. As a Canadian I've always heard that Detroit and Baltimore were bad places(been to Detroit a few times) but I've also always heard that N.O was as well. Didn't see N.O on that list so is it not as bad as I've heard it is or has it changed that much since Katrina?
