What is there to do here?
What is there to do here?
Powells
there's very little to do. Downtown is kinda neat, but not much else. We do have the world's smallest park, i guess?
Protip: There's about a dozen Portlands. I'll just assume you mean Portland, ME because I want to tell you to go see a Sea Dogs game.
And here I thought he meant Portland, Oregon.
saturday market! what do you do is more the question.... that might help a little
which was named after Portland, ME
anyway, if it's maine go to dimillo's floating restaurant, and check out some of the local fish markets and get some decent fish that hasn't gone through processing to a grocery store
there's also a fairly good local music scene, and of course bars fucking everywhere in the old port
If he means Portland, OR...there's ummm tons of strip clubs and random parks here and there...that's about it
Nothing, it's fucking Oregon
i liked portland, i stayed at the ace hotel which is in a good location to walk around to restaurants and stuff. i personally enjoyed the street vendors...i had the best fish tacos (1.50) from a stand near the deluxe hotel (another place i stayed at) aside from walking in the different hoods, there's not much to do here. there's some cute hipstery shops, etc. it is the #1 biking city in the us i'm told so if you have a bike, i would bring it and use it to explore around the city. honestly...not much to do or see in the city but i live in nyc..so maybe i'm just useto a more happening and noisey city.
nevertheless it's a very clean city with a lot of white people lol
Speaking of biking, there's a Seattle to Portland thing going on. You should go to Seattle first, then ride a bike down to Portland as part of the event.
Or did it happen already?
I'm pretty sure somebody on IRC mentioned this but there was a street in Portland that was basically one huge used bookstore/market wasn't there? [Corwin I think told me that, I forget]
I was supposed to move there from the east coast, but we're waiting to see where everything ends up with college for my gf and myself first D:
It depends on how much free time you're going to have. Multnomah Falls is great to see, and there are a ton of great hiking trails around there. Mount Saint Helen's is around a 1.5 hour drive from there, and I recommend that. It's quite amazing to see what that blast did to the area. Keep in mind this is all outdoors stuff, which I find that area to be excellent for. Also, as mentioned prior Oregon has a ton of cyclists, with every road having a bike lane.
if you are over 21 and like music and bars, can probly find a show of any sort of music you may be into. or if you like art, portland has tons of galleries. or depending on what days you will be in town can hit up saturday market, or the first or last thurdays, or hobby/comic book shows. or the japanese garden, or the rose test garden, etc.
really depends what you are into.
Chuck Palahniuk wrote a guide book of sorts about Portland, Oregon. It focuses alot on the gay stuff to do so might not be that helpful if you aren't into that. Coincidentally this is how I found out at age 14-15 that Chuck Palahniuk was gay. Fight Club made a lot more sense as a result.
Again, assuming Oregon...
In addition to what has already been mentioned, Voodoo Doughnuts is kind of a city institution and highly recommended.
Thirsty Thursdays at PGE Park for Portland Beaver (AAA baseball) games are nice too. Take the Max to the game, get wasted, take the Max / streetcar back to wherever your hotel is. It's also a fairly good place for people just post-college to meet and hang out, if you're into that kind of thing. (a.k.a. post-college meat market)
As another poster mentioned, Oregon strip clubs are good. Full nude, no alcohol, no strict "Keep your Distance" rule. The rules are more specific to the specific club you're at.
The Portland City Grill in the U.S. Bancorp tower has a fantastic view, although its better at night. The food is very expensive, but just going up for drinks is pretty cool.
If you're into museums/educational type stuff, OMSI is very cool.
EDIT: It appears there are a lot more Portlanders on BG than I previously suspected.
