Saw a trailer for this @ the screening of Avatar I went to last night.

Looks superb and yes, the Alice looks a little old, but the rest of the characters seem very well done (Queen o' hearts with an oversized head is fab).

Mr. B and Mr. D will be pulling off another fine partnership with this no doubt. Definately going to see this interpretation of the story.

Semi-necro, but figured best to post here since I had people pestering, but I can officially now say fiance was working on Alice to turn it to 3-D, and he says it's pretty fucking amazing. He also mentioned Sony (who contracted them) were douchebags, iono. But ya all see this movie cause it makes hunny money!

Am looking forward to this movie. I don't usually get into hype and try to see movies as they are and not for what people make them out to be, so I don't really have much expectations beyond the previews, and those look good

I'm stoked about it. Gonna watch it this weekend.

The makeup on Depp makes him look really creepy. My sis told me the other day that Burton always laughed @ Depp when he saw him wearing his get-up.

Saw it last night but I was really tired so I jumped in and out of consciousness a lot. Big fan of clever dialogue and a lot of the actors were well chosen. The Red Queen was probably my favorite person in the movie, followed by The Mad Hatter.

Edit - I saw it in 3-D but because I'm nearsighted, it was probably wasted on me. Outside of the scenes with a lot going on, I don't think it's really necessary.

There were only two parts where I was like "wtf" in the 3d aspect. The rest was pretty normal and nice.

[edit] something we found interesting is this was almost like a sequel to the animated cartoon vs. the book. As in, characters that were in the book that weren't in the cartoon, weren't in the movie either.

Legend 3D’s work on display in Alice in Wonderland

If you catch director Tim Burton’s 3D movie Alice in Wonderland this weekend, watch the tea party scene closely. It wasn’t shot using 3D cameras. It was converted from 2D to 3D using technology from Legend 3D.

“I think what you’ll notice about Alice is the level of detail in the clothing, the level of detail in the faces, the level of detail in the sets,” Legend executive Bobby Jaffe told me in a phone interview. “There’s a lot less stuff leaping out at you” compared to previous 3D movies, he said.

According to Jaffe, about three-quarters of Alice was shot with 2D cameras, then converted to 3D. “If you go looking for the conversion,” he said, “you’re never going to be able to tell the difference.”

Why shoot a 3D movie in 2D? Because it lets an experienced filmmaker like Burton use the tools he’s familiar with, rather than abandoning them for a whole new way of shooting scenes as James Cameron did for Avatar. Jaffe says that to Hollywood filmmakers, 3D is like Technicolor and steadycams. It gives them new ways to tell a story and to capture an audience’s attention. In fact, Legend originally specialized in all-digital colorization and restoration of classic films before making the leap to 3D.

Legend has movie work booked through 2012. But the company is also talking to TV and movie studios about converting their back catalogs to 3D to take advantage of what industry analysts say is a coming boom in 3D television sets in homes. Electronics market analysts iSuppli have forecast that 78 million 3D sets will be bought in 2015.

Obvious geek blockbusters The Matrix, Star Wars and Lord of the Rings are among the movies expected to be retrofitted to 3D, a process that takes Legend about four months.

San Diego-based Legend 3D was founded in 2001 as Legend Films and is privately funded. With additional offices in Los Angeles and Panta, India, the company has about 750 employees total.
Legend 3D is boytoy's company, so had to put this here. XD

Personally, I didn't notice a single thing in 3D. Nothing jumped out at me at all. If I am nearsighted, it's very slightly. I'm not sure if that's enough to mess with the effects at all.

I liked it, I did, but it felt kind of slow. It was pretty and all the acting was well done, the visual effects were done very well, and the various physical deformities and all that was great. The voice acting was fantastic, and the cast was fucking awesome, and for a movie as well done as it was, it was just slow. The pacing of the movie was it's biggest flaw, and it seemed like some thing went unexplained, like:

    Spoiler: show
Just to be safe. Like when the dog showed up at the White Queen's court for the first time and she dropped her hands and ran up to the dog and for that moment her entire baring and posture changed. Also, the stuff about the old king and queen and all that, just sort of felt glossed over.

I did enjoy it, but parts just felt sort of empty, and I'm not sure if I would ever sit down and watch it again just for kicks. Not like There Will Be Blood liked it but won't really watch it again, but still.

Characters were fantastic. I loved most of them. The cards were very cool looking.

But the story just seemed misdirected, slow paced, and honestly... unnecessary. I would have simply loved a rehash of the old story with these characters/actors.

Was entertaining enough for one viewing... only

I have to agree with the above poster. The characters were absolutely charming, but the story (to me) seemed rushed and very shallow.

The 3D was also very rarely used to its full potential, i would advise just seeing it in 2D, for me whenever i notice the glasses irritating me, the movie isnt doing its job.

Worth a watch for the characters, the story and visuals are far from ground breaking.
