You really don't know Tim Burton if you think his target audience is kids.

What is up with all of the dumbfuckery on BG these days? The "they" in the quote of myself in which you responded would likely not be referencing one person; Tim Burton, but the studio, Disney, that released and distributed the film.

No fucking shit Tim Burton isn't a children's director. Do you know what Disney is? Do you know what a PG rating is? Can you do the math here or will this be a team effort?

All in all I liked the movie. Was it great? Hell no! Was it good? I am not quite sure it was even a good movie. It was an average film with plot holes but a wonderful aesthetic that kept you interested in the film for the two hours.

The only things that I had issue with was really the way too long prologue and Depp himself. The film seemed more to me an excuse for Depp and Burton to get a paycheck from Disney. I can say one thing though, I enjoyed this Burton/Depp collaboration vastly more than the horrid mockery they made of Willy Wonka.

The film itself was muddled by 99% of the viewing public's lack of knowledge of the story of Alice. I left the theatre with people saying "there was no Jabberwocky in Alice in Wonderland" and "why was there chess people instead of just cards?" The vast majority of Americans only know the Alice that was given to us in the classic Disney movie. It made me embarrassed as an American to listen to the morons complaining as they left the theatre about pieces of story that was referenced in the film that were actually in the original books.

TLDR: Movie is only ok. It had its moments and was fun for portions and deathly slow in others. If you want to see it, go see it for a cheap non 3D matinee as the 3D is post production 3D and the film just isn't enhanced enough by it to warrant the extra 10$.

My two cents, the movie looked really great. Best looking movie of the year. The story, not so much. I was really disappointed that they made the movie a routine story of a chosen one who is prophesied to slay the dragon. I came to see Alice not Chronicles of Narnia.

When the Mad Hatter joined the battle I think i sprained my eyeball as I was rolling them so hard.

I was hoping for a story that was more random like a dream (and like the original story) but got a linear, uninspired hack-n-slash.

Saw it opening night, at the drive in! Wife loved it, I thought it was good. Something about it just didn't do it for me like other Tim Burton films have. I blame Disney.

The white queen is a trip. Love the way the character is played.

I debated throughout the film whether or not it recognized the sequel as happening, but we came to the conclusion that it must have. Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum were from Through the Looking Glass, and they definitely commented that they knew her before.

But ya more than likely the people never read the sequel, but really that's not Burton's fault.

The edition i read a long time ago had both of the stories in one book, i guess i got lucky because before that i never knew that there were two parts. Although, with both stories being relatively short i guess it makes sense that they would be contained in a single volume.

Also read Gulliver's travels that same year, i was really surprised at how interesting that book was, it was not nearly as childish as my preconceptions made it out to be.

I liked all the characters, especially the Cheshire Cat. I saw a lot of Jack Sparrow peeking through Depp's Mad Hatter performance - but being as they are both insane and have british accents, I suppose it's only natural. I did enjoy the movie as a whole, however, I felt that there were some definite plotholes and some necessary character development that just never got shown. For example,

when the Red Queen sees Alice on the scroll she says "I would know that hair anywhere" but when Alice shows up in her garden she doesn't suspect a thing. Also, how are we supposed to know that the White Queen would be any better a ruler than the Red Queen? She seemed kind of loopy too. At the end when Alice completely rejects proposal dude and starts mouthing off to everyone else they all just take it uncomplainingly. Pretty sure if she did that at the beginning of the movie she would have been slapped and locked in her room.

Just stuff like that bothered me, but I guess it's no big deal if you're just watching for entertainment purposes. And speaking of which, I find 3D in movies to add a good level of depth. It's not a carnival ride, not everything needs to OMG POP OUT AT YOU, honestly if stuff did that people would probably get sick or at least have to look away a lot. The way this movie (and Avatar as well) did 3D was very good in my opinion, downplayed enough that it adds the third dimension of depth without actively trying to freak the audience out or anything. I really enjoyed the 3D in Alice, I just wish I could watch it like that at home~.

Nope, I felt the same way. I guess I expected him to be more... whats the word... mad? Most of Depps other characters have had more depth and subtle craziness in them (Willy Wonka, Jack Sparrow) so it disappointed me how docile his Mad Hatter performance was. The only part I did like was the random Scottish accent and Braveheart-esque imagery (wearing a quilt and the Celtic broadsword at the end.) I felt everyone else in the movie did a good job portraying their characters. Although the Cracked out Rabbit and Cheshire Cat stole the show for me.

I took a friend out to see this for her birthday and I enjoyed it alot. It starts extremely slow, but it ended well. Loved Johnny Depp in it and the crazy hare was funny. Will get on Blu ray.

Pretty good but I felt like something was missing. The ending seemed kind of rushed for my taste. American McGee's Alice is still the best Alice in Wonderland rendition but Burton's is a close second.
