Confederations Cup 2009 (Soccer)

Colin Cowherd was going off about this game this morning, talking about how the USA had no chance, and was making fun of anyone who suggested otherwise. He was comparing it to the USA playing Luxembourg in basketball.

Not that I disagreed with him, but I'm going to have to tune in tomorrow, see what kind of crow he eats.

I've always enjoyed international soccer, maybe this will stir up some interest in next year's World Cup for the USA. That would be fun.

I can't wait to tune in during the morning tomorrow to see what Colin says. That's one reason I think he's a douche. Sure, he tries to tell it like it is, but on sports he has ZERO clue about (read Soccer/Futbol), then he should just shut the fuck up. At least I'm smart enough to admit I know zero about soccer other than more goals wins. D:

I did agree that Spain would probably roll the USA, so that's why it's surprising to me that they won.

Was at work, didn't watch it, but followed the liveblog. Apparently this was a pretty big upset. Spain had won, like, 18 strait international games and hadn't allowed a goal in the confederation cup. The US was like, 1-11 against top ranked teams.

I think I'm most excited about hearing ESPNradio tomorrow morning at 10EST. Especially after writing a rap titled "how bad is the US going to get beat" and spending an hour of your four hour show talking about how bad the US team is going to get hammered.

Next up for the US, a rematch with brazil on sunday.

Actually think it was 15 straight international wins (world record) and 35 straight games without a loss (one win away from a world record) or something like that, so they counted draws as well.

I can't wait to see Colin eat shit and all of the soccer fans to call in to dog on him. Hilarious.

I'm a firm believer that in the next 15-20 years the US will be a dominant fixture in international soccer. And by dominant, I mean we'll win the WC before England.

The USA is bidding on the World Cup in 2018. Here's hoping they get and manage to be competetive in it. The 1994 World Cup stirred up some interest in the US, but half the fans in attendance were wearing the opposite team's colors. A substantial home field advantage might give the team a fighting chance.

The '94 World Cup also resulted in the invention of my favorite pinball game of all time.

The US doesn't blow away most anyone in CONCACAF. Honduras, Mexico, Costa Rica can all run with the US on any given day and have the advantage over us at home.

I'm going to have to agree though, the US team will become considerably better over the next 10-15 years. Thanks to the internet there's a whole new generation of fans who can follow and see all the best leagues in the world play without having to wake up at totally bizarre times of the day. Plus it's becoming trendy and chicks dig soccer guys because they can see their faces and/or muscles, just like basketball.

This game was somewhat awesome, but how the US remained in the tournament is ridiculous lol.

They got smoked by Italy and Brazil, and to move on they had to beat Egypt by 3 goals or more and Brazil had to beat Italy by 3 goals or more. US beat Egypt 3-0 and Brazil beat Italy 3-0, was amazing.

Yeah the Egypt result and then Brazil just thumping Italy was almost as surprising honestly. Now we'll get to play Brazil again and probably get destroyed 1 more time as we get our hopes up.

The sad thing now though is Bradley will probably get to stay on until the NEXT world cup after this string of events unless we totally keel over in WC2010

England is the Chicago Cubs of Soccer, great in the regular season but choke in the playoffs (World Cup).
