I know little about international play but what is the significance of the Confederations Cup? If the World Cup was the World Series would this cup be Division Championship? Interleague play?

Its a preparation tournament. It doesn't have a significance other than seeing what can be done to improve the organizations for the World Cup a year after.

Pretty fun to watch though with top teams like Spain.

That ball was at least a foot deep in the goal. Tough angle for the refs but that replay shows Howard hitting it out and it still hit the underside of the crossbar. Oh well, Brazil is peppering Howard this entire half. Hold on! HOLD THE LINE!
