Now taking bets on how many pages we get to before people realize this isn't about double billing.
Have you read the filed complaint?

My professor in undergrad was actually the star witness in this McDonald's coffee spill case as the scientific expert (specifically heat and mass transfer). What actually happened was a lady ordered coffee + other things from a drive through and got the coffee in the typical styrofoam (sp?) cup with the cap on it. She received the coffee first, and instead of putting it in a cup holder, placed it between her legs to cuff it. The cap on the cup was not securely fastened and when she moved to grab the remaining order, the cap popped open, her legs squeezed the cup, and coffee poured out onto her legs, giving her almost immediate 3rd degree burns.
My professor's ultimate conclusion was that the coffee made by McDonald's was unnecessarily overly-hot. I don't remember the exact values though we used it as a case study in heat transfer, but studies show the 'ideal' temperature to begin drinking coffee (sipping) is about 148 degrees F. The McDonald's coffee then was heated to in the 170+s F. He also calculated the temperature of a liquid required to give a human being 3rd degree skin burns in 5 seconds of contact (estimated that beyond 5 seconds you could remove clothing etc.) and found this temperature to be in the upper 160s. Hence, McDonald's could have made their coffee at a temperature still slightly above the optimal high for drinking but below the threshold to 3rd degree burn a human after 5 seconds of contact. Beyond this, if you were to drink coffee at 160 F it would only activate pain receptors and not taste.
The jury's decision was to award the woman damages that equaled 1 day's worth of McDonald's Coffee sales. Of course that turned out to be like 4M+ because we're talking worldwide. Make of it what you will - I saw some of the original photos used in the case and she got scarred pretty heavily.
The lesson here is don't hold styrofoam cups between your legs because the cup molds shape (obvious?).
I reactivated my account in May, right? I was charged for a month in December even though my credit card wasn't accepted. I mean, we're billed ahead of time for the coming month. So I'm not sure why I was even charged that in the first place. My card simply should have been rejected.
And then this month, I was double-billed for a total of $24. I'd love to get in on this lawsuit. Furthermore, on my old account, Square-Enix accused me of warp hacking across La'Thiene Plateau. I provided information stating Comcast was having connection issues, and they basically told me, "tough luck". I mean, what the fuck?
The PlayOnline software is severely outdated. Square-Enix is catching up with the times via their new Square-Enix account thingy, but ineptitude on Square-Enix's part is no excuse for fucking customers over. Blizzard doesn't charge you if you don't cancel/change your subscription if they can't charge to your CC. It's simply retarded that Square-Enix thinks it's cool to fuck their customers over.
Esther Leong, I know your out there somewhere tonight reading this. I love you.
Thanks for elaborating on that, I knew the story but the stuff about the prof was cool. For a case that's cited so often people are really very ignorant about it (and, I assume, choose to stay ignorant so they can have an easy reference for 'silly lawsuit' complaints). In this case though, yeah, it's stupid to heat coffee that hot, and I can see it warranting a lawsuit if only to make the company aware of it so it doesn't happen again.
You bet your ass I'm guilty of the chosen ignorance thing when I see a title like 'SE being sued' though - regardless of whether or not the case has a foundation, imma laugh that shit up.
Just because.

(had to be done)
During these proceedings I demand that someone answer SE's attorney with "You have to stop its regen" everytime a question about a credit card is asked.
With a name like Esther Leong, getting billed twice in a month would be the least of my worries...
Don't talk shit about Total.
lol this sounds like the time that woman sued mcdonalds becuase she burnt herself drinking their hot coffee...
edit: nvm just saw someone already wrote that :3
