I was into Star Trek: The Next Generation when I was growing up. I managed to buy 50+ tie-in books on a meagre £10 a month pocket money. I remember when we used to go away to the caravan for the weekend, I'd make sure I was the last one out of the house so I could leave Sky on and record episodes lol. This progressed to Deep Space Nine where I bought a few books but petered out by the time Voyager came one. I did end up going to quite a few conventions though over the space of a couple of years. Went to Canada twice to some Stargate conventions. Built up a hefty debt which I'm still paying off 8 years later (kept spending but I've got it under control now, 18 months then I have no debts!).
In the meantime I started collecting trading cards. It started when I bought my first basic set of Xena season one at my first convention. I remember buying it and being embarrassed thinking that everyone would think I was a lesbian or something for liking Xena lol. Then it went to Stargate SG1 and spiralled out of control when the Lord of the Rings movies came out. I bought every card in every release, even the super rare signature card for Dominic Monaghan which was £1500 at the time. I bought one off this guy on the internet and it got lost in the post. Stupidly instead of asking for a refund, I chose other cards to replace it lol. Then I got another one off a guy locally and picked it up in person. Oh, when I was at one of the Stargate conventions in Canada, there was an auction and I paid quite a bit of money for a complete Stargate set, the binder had been signed by all the main cast. That was a rush, bidding for that.
The Harry Potter movies also started coming out. I'm at work atm, but I think I have one complete set, except for the cards which had pieces of prop items in them, they were too bloody expensive.
Current obsession has been FFXI for the past 5 years. With that, I don't need anything else.
