Let's also pretend that you have enough musical sense to know that Tool is one of the best bands to ever exist, and therefore have chosen to purchase a day pass for saturday night to see them play. Interesting aside: The Beastie Boys are going to be rapping up a geriatric storm during the same time slot as Tool at a different stage, so this BBoys performance could potentially rival David Hasselhoff's 1994 concert in Las Vegas (that was nearly cancelled because OJ's Bronco kept nearly half the audience at home glued to their TV) as the musical performance with the single dumbest crowd ever assembled.

Edit: I was thinking about this just now and didn't want to make a new post. The one thing that people who don't like Tool have in common is they can never tell me of a band that is...

... and be able to justify it in a way that allows me to catch even a glimpse of their perspective and think they might have a point.

The wife and I are going for all three days. I would never have been caught dead at the old, travelling Lollapalooza, but something about it being in Grant Park, with my hotel right across the street, makes it tolerable. Plus it comes out to like $3 per band, and that doesn't suck.

But the best thing about Lollapalooza is that you can go see a band you'd never pay money to see under any other circumstances, either because their fans are idiots or they only play giant arenas way out in the suburbs. The downside is when two bands you want to see are up against each other, like Tool and the Beastie Boys. You can split the set, but you've gotta walk the length of the park so you end up missing a lot.

On that day, I'm interested in:

Arctic Monkeys
TV on the Radio
Constantines
Glasvegas

Maybe interested in:

Rise Against (if I can suffer the 14 year old emo kids)
Coheed and Cambria (if I can suffer the fat, smelly, fucking nerds that worship at the alter)
Ben Harper (if the beer lines are too long)

And BTW... What's with all the Animal Collective love? I saw them last year at All Points West, they were AWFUL. Just noise thrown on top of noise thrown on top of noise. I walked away just to get away from them

If you wanna book a hotel room, better do that shit fast. We've had ours booked for months- lots of people fly in for this thing. We're staying at the W because we're ballin' like that.

IIRC, there are actually trees across from the north stage, but there are also port-a-potties. That's kinda gnarly, but depending on the heat might be worth it.

We've always had luck with the trees near the middle of the park for times when there are no bands on we want to see. Lots of open shade and quiet.

I don't know anything about the other drinks, but I hope beer continues to be as cheap as it was in recent years. It's sad to think I consider $5 for a Bud cheap, but when you figure they're $8 at a baseball game it looks like a fucking bargain.

I'm starting to get excited just thinking about this! I have yet to attend a Lollapalooza that didn't introduce me to at least one new awesome band I didn't know shit about before hand. From Rage in '94 to Gogol Bordello last year... u just can't go wrong with 3 days straight of mostly radio unfriendly music.

i wish i could go see rise against live =( you should definitely check them out... i love like all of their music haha. gaslight anthem is pretty good too, beastie boys are good.. you're obviously going to see tool lol. tv on the radio and coheed and cambria are pretty good as well. those are all my suggestions XD
