Dream Theater. One of the best progressive rock bands ever. They have amazing guitar work, a drummer that could whoop the ass of almost any other out there, and have been putting out quality music for over twenty years.
Porcupine Tree. Another progressive band that just kicks ass. They do fantastic work, and over the years show that not only do they have a fantastic range when it comes to their actual music, but are still growing and changing.
Ok, so I'll admit that tool has done some amazing stuff, but to be honest, 10,000 days kind of sucked, and with only four albums out, one of them sucking gives them a 25% chance of suck.
I would have to agree with Porcupine Tree. They are an amazing band.
all of dream theater's members are god tier except labrie and thats just because hes old/his voice isn't what it was, they were pretty amazing at download this year
I used to love Dream Theater, but LaBrie killed it for me after a while. I can't stand his fucking voice anymore, it's too whiny. My favorite work by them, although technically not by Dream Theater, is An Evening with John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess. Great album.
Porcupine Tree is pretty tits too, favorite album is definitely In Absentia. Haven't listened to any of their new stuff, though.
My favorite PT album is Recordings by far.
I saw them live last year, and yeah, James Labrie's voice is going down hill. He had really bad voice control issues and kept falling behind with the lyrics and missing parts of the song. It was kind of odd, I was singing along and he kept being off.
Edit: Also, I think my favorite Porcupine Tree album is Fear of a Blank Planet, although In Absentia is a very close second.
As a whole, I love the music they put out, but while they have some of their best individual musical work on some of the newer albums, I feel that they haven't made an album up to the quality of Scenes From a Memory in a while.
Arctic Monkeys, Atmosphere, Tool, and Ben Harper are the bands that would interest me - granted I'm by no means an audiophile and don't recognize at least half the bands on that list.
Also I didn't click on this thread until today because I thought it was about a musical. Title fail.
