man this thread is almost embarrassing to read at times.

anyhow, on the subject of hispanics, in many regions in the country they face more racism on a day to day basis than many other minority groups. Lower-income Hispanics are assumed to be illegals who are incapable of speaking any English, regardless of their actual status. And Hispanics are also facing a lot of legislation aimed pretty squarely at them, especially regarding language issues- ranging from states attempting to ban Spanish in government literature and eliminating ESL programs/etc. You also need to look at many very conservative immigration policies that aren't very considerate of people who really care about and want to help their family members in another country, regardless of how you view the legal issues/your moral standpoint on immigration.

a lot of legislation goes the other way too though aka free fucking higher education for illegals being proposed by some campuses that makes me want to vomit

When Eminem does it, do you think "damn, white people are fucked up?" When John Edwards, Bill Clinton, and all the GOP philanderers cheat on their wives, do you think "damn, white people are fucked up?" and so on

The big problem is how the discussion is framed- blacks and other minority groups are seen as deficient and the community needs to overcome those deficiencies... yet with how easy it is, especially in the media and popular culture/mindsets, to focus on negativity (and direct that towards a group) you have this phenomenon of talking about gansta rap being the black community at fault for misrepresenting itself while people like deGrasse-Tyson, Obama, Denzel Washington, the Williams sisters, etc do really amazing things and it doesn't get to reflect on the "black community" as easily as the negatives....

gotta run now but I'll try to come back to this point if it requires further explanation.
It just seems like the negative traits are being blasted and publicized more than the positive ones. The black groups trying to get rid of all this negativity seem to be greatly overshadowed by all the shit being pushed through the media. You have a large following of people emulating the "thug life" and it just seems like it nullifies anything other groups are trying to do.

Works fantastic on Salvadoreans, Colombians, Cubans, Costa Ricans, Guatemalans, the possibilities are endless!

The best part is when you ask them 'where in Mexico is El Salvador, anyway?'

the problem is that the "negative traits" are what sells. I'll try to keep this away from marxist thinking as much as I can, but you should very clearly be able to see that racism is a useful byproduct of how the dominant groups in this country do business. first it was blackface, then putting a white face on it, now just showing the thugs to the kids in the 'burbs. despite all the money that black culture has generated, it took so long for individuals to achieve widespread/"official" recognition for it. essentially the good stuff gets repackaged or disassociated from the black community, while the bad-but-profitable is focused on as coming from the community, which further perpetuates the idea that the "black community" is nothing more than thugs in housing projects. well no fucking shit that a community full of thugs in housing projects acts like thugs from housing projects, right?

on the topic of thugs from housing projects, we can start talking about systemic poverty that's hardly limited to the black demographic. there's a shitton of poor white people who live vulgar lives, but somehow (spoilers: it's who packages and sells) the white demographic doesn't carry all that baggage in the forefront...

See kids? Thug life isn't a symptom of economic disposession caused by a highly unstable capitalist system... it's a fashionable lifestyle!

buy this CD and outfit to emulate the thug lifestyle while being "edgy" on the internet talking about how racism doesn't really exist and how blacks bring it on their own community!

So many white people think they're sooooooooooooo cool for saying that.

Black people are just as bad though. We don't think someone's cool if they say it, but we think they're uncool if they don't.

Serious question (sorry if it has been asked.)

Where did the 40 acres and a mule thing come from? I actually can't find anything that says blacks were entitled to anything after the civil war.

General Sherman or one of his cronies here in North and South Carolina said iirc that "freed slaves were entitled to the same privileges that whites were entitled to" which in that case as head of a home was the proverbial 40 and a mule.

We learn that shit here since middle school. I'm sure I may be off on some points but you get the gist, ill look when I get home for accuracy.

I fired a couple of Asian girls for saying the N-word. I hear black people calling each other the N-word, but I let it go.
