BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The video shows the 16-year-old boy lying on the floor, his body convulsing, as elders of a small Connecticut church cast a "homosexual demon" from his body.

"Rip it from his throat!" a woman yells. "Come on, you homosexual demon! You homosexual spirit, we call you out right now! Loose your grip, Lucifer!"

The 20-minute video posted on YouTube by Manifested Glory Ministries is being called abuse by gay and youth advocates, who are demanding an investigation. But a church official this week denied that the teenager was injured or that the church is prejudiced.

"We believe a man should be with a woman and a woman should be with a man," the Rev. Patricia McKinney told The Associated Press. "We have nothing against homosexuals. I just don't agree with their lifestyle."

No idea why they would even film that aside from publicity reasons since it should be obvious it would make the media rounds.

I would think it was funny, if my parents hadn't tried to do the exact same thing with me. Fortunately I had learned common sense by then, and used my head instead of blindly following their religion, or this might have been my story as well.

It's revolting that religion can brainwash people into making others suffer like this, and even more so they can brainwash the victims into thinking they need it as well. When I first discovered I was gay, I thought that I had a demon inside me as well, and spent years praying and trying to exorcise it, trying to fit in with the straight crowd, trying to get a girlfriend, doing everything I could to get rid of it. Fast foward 4 years, I finally realized there was nothing wrong with me. My sanity was saved of all things, by 3 friinds who were Wiccans. They were always helpful and selfless, kind and non judgemental. (except when I would piss one off once in a while, goddamn she had a hard slap, she made my heart miss a beat once when she backhanded me across the chest). The fact they were so good to others despite being what the religion deemed as living sinful lives made me question my own faith, and actually use my head for once. I realized that one can have great morals without religion, that such things are a part of us, and that there wasn't anything wrong with me. That seriously lifted a huge weight off my chest, and I have never regretted tossing my beliefs once.

I find it hard to believe I once would have agreed to such an exorcism now, but religion truly is a dangerous force to meddle with. Regardless of its beliefs, any religion gathers the hearts of many people into one, and there will always come a time when the one guiding that collective heart will have the wrong intentions, regardless if it's a pope, priest, or other leader.

Actually, it's probably more because the story talks about a "small Connecticut church", a state that's close to 90% white overall and probably a little higher outside of the major cities. But hey! I'm actually pretty positive that is not the reason. The fact is when people hear of a crazy anti-gay story, they think of western/southern white christian americans. In order for you to comprehend this, I will present to you the stereotype in another quote, one by the lovely Megan Fox.
