Nothing really is stopping them from getting win 7 for free, as I've never paid for a single windows OS in over 10 years.

First of all, pirating an OS is probably the biggest security risk one could ask for, especially if you play online games. It's rather silly.
Secondly, there's a large difference between downloading a cracked OS, and downloading an upgrade CD that would give you free (legit) Win7.
Then why do you care lol...No, it won't work if you try to split it between 4 friends. If you want to pirate it, you're going to have to wait for it to get cracked and figure out how to get updates for it.
Edit: and what he said.
It's fifty fucking dollars. Maybe you and four friends should just buy four editions of windows home premium and quit being fucking idiots.
Then just buy an upgrade key later. You're not getting anything absolutely amazing with Pro other than XP-mode and it's emulated XP for older software.
Most games run perfectly under Windows 7.
Fifty fucking dollars. Really.
Aww, your internet toughness is so cute.
Need to offer a cheap pro/ultimate for people that participated in the beta! (one can wish right?)
Upgrade versions still come with a registration code. The install works exactly the same as any other Windows install , except it won't start without detecting a previous version of Windows when the installer starts. You still have to register and activate it, and the code that comes with it is good for only one use.
I'm on the fence about getting this. Is it worth upgrading to windows 7 from vista?
Common sense != Internet toughness
Try again. I'd say the same shit to your face. I'm not threatening you, just telling you exactly how it is. It's only fifty dollars dude. One PS3 game. One XBox game.
Pretty worth it for something as simple as a permanent CD-Key. Hardly "overpriced".
I think it is, personally. I love the interface and my memory crashing error is long gone. I love Windows 7 already.
well they say its one use but theres ways around that for 1 u can install in on the same PC agen and agen as many times as you like.
And even on other PC's you just need to do phone activation and when it asks if this is only pc you have it installed on say yes and it gives you the activation code just like that least thats how it worked with vista.
I have a copy of upgrade vista ultimate installed on 2 PC only using 1 code and both work and update fine.
Using an old OEM recovery CD, I've been able to straightforwardly install and register XP on several computers with no problems. I don't know if you're supposed to be able to do that, but it never gave me any message or anything out of ordinary. Do you think I would be able to upgrade from one of those computers?
Also, is there any word on if there will be a way to upgrade from RC2 other than just buying the full priced version in retail?
Think this would upgrade from XP thats using a vlk? I don't have a legit windows OS to upgrade from and I might actually buy 7.
Awesome, this is the type of thing I was looking for. I think I'll pre-order it and a new HDD as well (250 gigs isn't cutting it).
Everything I heard about Vista before I got it was great. Then I installed it and was disappointed by the lack of drivers, how well it preformed in games, it's refusal to read anything more then 3 gigs of ram, and how long it takes to boot/shutdown. Hopefully this is the true successor to WinXP.
I know this is nitpicking and going to seem too much pro-Microsoft but...
Microsoft doesn't make the drivers, so you can't fault the OS if manufacturers don't make correct, functioning Vista drivers for their products. Then I installed it and was disappointed by the lack of drivers
There's no real sign that any game preforms worse in Vista, unless you're talking about FFXI, which is more the fault of nvidia than anything else.how well it preformed in games
Any 32-bit OS can't read more than 3 gigs of ram. Get the 64 bit version and you won't have that problem.it's refusal to read anything more then 3 gigs of ram
My computer boots up into Windows Vista in about 35 seconds. Not sure why yours doesn't. This was never really a problem for me, either.and how long it takes to boot/shutdown.
Not to pick on you or anything, but these kind of statements without research is how negative stigmas are formed. Vista was far from perfect, but it's also far from as bad as some people (coughApplecough) make it out to be.
I have to ask, is it worth the fifty bucks to upgrade my vista? I haven't tried 7 yet, but from what I've heard, it like, kicks ass.
I haven't gotten it yet as I have a copy of Auburn's XP Edition they hand out. It's an official Windows XP as it allows you to update to Service Pack 3 and all that, so I'm wondering if it'd still work with Windows 7?
So a question... not sure if anyone else has to deal with this. I have a laptop that came with Windows Vista Business 64 and Windows XP 32 downgrade.
Since I hated Vista I downgraded to XP. The question is that, do I have to backup to Vista before Win7 upgrade works? Or will it install fine via XP?
