    Windows 7 sound issue

so when i installed the 7 beta months ago i didnt have sound, didnt bother me much but made me not really use the install much, now ive been messing around on RC and i still dont have sound. i'd like to get it working so i can see how i really like the OS. on xp my device for sound shows as sigmatel high definition audio codec, but i haven't been able to locate any drivers that'll work for my pc.

also the links end up wanting you to download driver detective which doesn't do anything.

if you got integred sound wih mainboard try to download Vista drivers they works in 99% cases. unless you got very old sound card. anyway post what you got might be able to help better.

i tried to do that, but was unable to locate any vista drivers, everything was a link to driver detective, not the drivers themselves.

    You have a dell?

    search on dell's website.

    edit:

    in other words, propitiatory device.

Well your quest is to find the true name of your sound card.

Is it onboard? Then the model of your mobo.

    that is suspiciously odd.

Try uninstalling any audio drivers you have, and reinstalling those drivers.

    Here are all my thoughts.

    Possibilities:

    1. onboard audio is disabled in bios.
    2. mobo has a different onboard audio then what intel website site says,
in which case, you can download |MG| EVEREST Free Edition 2.20 Download everrest to figure out exactly what you have.

    3. some existing driver is messing up the installation.

same error, not disabled in bios, works perfectly in my xp boot, just 7 wont detect it, or it does as a high definition audio device but that doesnt play any sound

I'm at a loss. Curious, does everest show it as high definition audio?

    says "High Definition Audio Controller"

looking over the settings the only thing ive noticed is where it says the high definition audio device if i go into it it only shows read panel optical jack in the jack information section, not any of the other jacks such as the one that i'm using

if the board's manufacturer doesn't have the right drivers for it, I don't know who will.
