Desktop replacement laptops?

Well, sony wants between $300-$500 to fix a hinge on my laptop.

So I figured I would browse around for a new one, as this one is over 2 years old now.

but anyways, looking for a good desktop replacement laptops. Dell is throwing alienware laptops at me when asking/looking at desktop replacement but I find them extremely overpriced.

So was wondering what do people recommend for a laptop? (not getting another sony/hp/compaq again)

Gateway - FX Edition Laptop with Intel® Centrino® 2 Processor Technology - P-7805u

maybe you can get lucky and find a first edition one like i did. runs everything AMAZING on 1920x1200.

well, they put these monitors in it on "accident."

the ones they put in them now run at 1600x1200 i think. either way, GREAT buy.

Wow I like that..... gonna take a spin by bestbuy tomorrow and see if they have a first gen one.

if you can get over (or for some reason like) the crazy glowing neon lightning and flames... ASUS makes some great price/performance laptops.
