Any show on network TV sucks.
I'm personally hooked on Breaking Bad right now.
You all fail for not mentioning House.
Maybe you should read all the posts.
Though I do fail for not mentioning Lost.
Wow, I glossed over it not once, but twice.![]()
I would disagree 100% with this like others in the thread have. It's won a Peabody Award for how amazingly it combined ethical/political questions we face in the war on terror and juxtaposing them in a science fiction environment. That's not even delving into all the questions it raises about religion. Likewise it pissed off a lot of fans of 'scifi' when it first started airing b/c some ppl thought it was too dark to be tv scifi.
Mad Men as well needs to be mentioned. Season 2 is about to come out on dvd and season 3 will premire sometime around August. It is probably the best show on TV other than Lost but for completely different reasons. First season won probably every award that a tv drama could win. But, it's about an advertising agency in 1960s Manhattan and the personal lives of the people who work there, specifically the head creative exec. Great storytelling about suburban housewife angst, racial tensions, homosexuality, stigmas of divorce, sexism/women in the workplace, women going on the pill and everything that plagued the 1960s in no particular order (Abortion will probably make an appearance in Season 3 as it should be taking place in 1963-64). It's honestly the sexiest, coolest hour of tv you will watch.
But yeah otherwise any combo of the shit ppl listed as well as:
Kings
Curb Your Enthusiasm
The Boondocks
Flight of the Conchords
if you like British stuff Life on Mars, Ashes to Ashes, Doctor Who, and Torchwood
Not very big on network shows unless its devoted to comedy (Comedy Central or TBS) If anything I enjoy Law & Order: SVU and Hell's Kitchen.
No Reservations
Can't stop watching and don't know why.
Shows I've personally watched all of:
House
Heroes (kinda sucks tbh but I feel bad for giving up after season 1 was awesome)
Lost
Scrubs
Family Guy
Futurama
Dexter
True Blood (Also not that great)
Friends
Big Bang Theory
Burn Notice
Supernatural (I even got the tattoo lol)
Reaper
Psych
How I Met Your Mother
Dollhouse
Journeyman (Was good but cancelled after season 1)
Chuck
Honestly out of all these, the best show I have ever watched is Lost. If you have to pick any show to watch, pick Lost. First season is kinda boring and not much happens tbh but it quickly becomes very interesting.
How is the first season of Lost boring to a new viewer? I mean to all of us who have seen season 4+5 and see the scope of everything thats happening sure it may seem a little pedantic to focus so much time on what now seem like small characters/plotlines, but first time watching it you should still be on the edge of your seat not knowing what will happen.
I rewatched it recently and nothing happened at all.
At the end of season 1 is when it starts to pick up but the first 80% of season 1 is just backstory to the characters and it's just overall boring.
I'm forcing a friend to watch it because he can't make it through the first season because it's like nothing is happening. There's only so many ways the writers can say "there's something in the jungle" before nobody cares.
I rewatched it before season 5 started and I agree, most of it is very small compared to what is going on now, but I don't get how a first time viewer would not be interested, its not as if everybody's backstory is boring.. theres tons of mysteries being started in the backstories. As well, the Others, the hatch, smoke monster, polar bears, Hugo's #s, and Christian both on and off the island are all introduced relatively early. And don't forget that they cover like 48 days on the island in Season 1, no other season has narrated that much of their time on the island, theres so much more going then seasons 2-4 where the narration settles on the buildup and drawdown of 2-3 events. Granted plotlines like Sun knows English but Jin can't know or Shannon/Boone in pretty much their entirety seem slow now but the revelation about Jin and what he would do to be with Sun was pretty much it for heart tugging romance on the island until Desmond/Penny, Rose/Bernard, and every other couple. Your friend must not really be watching if he finds season 1 boring, and I doubt he will make it past Season 2 or 3 as midway through both shit gets alot slower then anything in Season 1.
The shows I watch all the time:
All in the Family
Married with Children
Roseanne
Sopranos
Monk
The Office
Dexter
Weeds
Eureka
Psych
