Another lil' update:
Foreign Vocal Artist for FFXIV Main Theme
犬耳家の親族, a fansite dedicated to Nobuo Uematsu's music company, Dog Ear Records, has released a DVD to its members that gave a small look inside the studio where the main theme for Final Fantasy XIV is being recorded. Recently, Square Enix announced the vocal artist for Final Fantasy XIII's main theme, but all the DVD appears to reveal is about FFXIV's grand motif is that the artist is foreign.
It was stated in an interview that the most vital points of FFXIV's story would have spoken dialogue, but only in English for all regions. This would seem to indicate the main theme will be sung in English as well, but there is no confirmation yet as to whether there will be versions sung in other languages.
I hope the main music will be done with japanese only
, personally music just sounds better done in japanese then english for game music ;/
it doesn't b/c singing in games always sucks, especially those emo songs that we know from the FF series!

I don't know what to think about this. Cool, I guess? I suppose I just don't see why SE wouldn't get voice actors for different languages, though I could see how that wouldn't be cost effective.
Clearly this means that the JP only Campaign code will be redeemable for an in-game English>Japanese audio translator.
If I were Japanese, I'd be kind of upset with SE for not including voice acting in my native language.
The original language is almost always superior. The only example I can think of where localization is lossless is Metal Gear Solid.
And also, there are weeaboos who just want everything to be in Japanese.
Who cares? Most of us will turn the sound off within a month anyway.
One thing I've always found really odd (but interesting) about FFXI is that it was initially designed for Japan, yet every single NPC and monster in the game only has a name in English, and players can only use English characters for their own names. If you play the Japanese version of the game, the names above monsters don't change to Japanese or anything, they're exactly the same.
Most Japanese peoples' English is not very good, so I can guarantee that names like "Virulent Peiste" mean absolutely nothing to them. Seems like a very weird design decision to me to name everything in a language your main audience doesn't speak.
Sound wasn't too bad in FFXI. After 5 years I did replace most of the soundtrack with Ys Oath in Felghana music..but aside that, it's better than most MMOs out there that has little to no music, let alone different music for different situations.
FFXI's music wasn't bad, just got boring after a while having to spend so much time in particular zones.
I think the chocobo riding music made me turn of ffxi music alot... ;/
Sitting in Jeuno (or any zone for that matter) LFP made me turn off the music. lol
