Campaign was my last straw.
Campaign was my last straw.
ffxi's music was fine for me, i find myself turning off WoW's music more often, heck once i dinged 80 and start raiding i turned the music off and never turn it on ever again.
I turned 11's music off after I caught my then-boyfriend unaware he was whistling the Sandy bagpipes music. The loops on the tunes in 11 are so short that it does your head in after about 10 minutes - especially (however much I do actually like them) the Jeuno Xmas jingle bells... only ever put the sound back on when I'm doing things like WOTG cutscenes or the mini-expansion final fights.
Thank god Dragons Aery or Attowah Chasm didn't have music, phew.
Ill give you that, but there is also a healthy mixture of Japanese in the game as well. Every Katana, Great Katana, Ninjitsu Spells, some Yagudo, every Katana WS, every Great katana WS. Basicaly almost all things that was derived from that area of the world used Japanese. Even in the english version. Though, only english characters were used.
Then you have a good mixture of european names for gear/enemies in the game as well. Things like Kamphmaschine, the whole Eisen set, many NM's have Norse/Greek/English names.
Forgive me if im wrong, but for most of FFXI's existance... the majority of players were english speaking. It does make sence that most of the items/enemies are in english characters, with english based names.
When FFXI was originally released SE had made the announcement that there were no plans to localize it for any countries other than Japan, so that isn't a valid point. They changed their minds in later years, but saying that they used English names to facilitate a large English speaking userbase for a game that they didn't plan to release to English speaking countries just doesn't make sense.
I got sick of it too. But then I changed it for some guitar F-Zero X Mute City theme, and promptly rode chocobo everywhere.I think the chocobo riding music made me turn of ffxi music alot... ;/
how can anyone possibly hate the chocobo riding music???
Well that's a special case. Japan isn't the biggest PC gaming country compared to say Korea and the US, there was demand for a PC version of FFXI which they decided to localize it to English for the PC release because they may as well get more money for it right?
Also, it's required that you need to know at least basic English by the end of Highschool in Japan and since romanji is used in favor of Kana at a lot of the time by younger people it's just easier to use English..even before releasing it the west.
Doesnt the chocobo riding music fade out after like 5 minutes of riding?
I'm not sure where you're getting this from. I've never seen a case of "romanji is used in favor of Kana at a lot of the time by younger people", and very few people in Japan speak even extremely basic English.
It's just like here in Canada, we're required to learn some French in school, but almost nobody takes it seriously beyond what's needed to get through the course. It's all forgotten immediately as soon as possible.
You're right, it's actually quite the opposite. People text/mail/message each other almost exclusively in hiragana/katakana, and even modern words that develop (Google, Twitter etc.) are quickly given hiragana/katakana equivalents that are widely used.
They continue to try and ramp up the educational system here for English, but still many people end up like your example, "Ah yea, I learned some French in high school, but I forgot it."
Still, I think many Japanese know a lot more than they let on, it's just harder to draw it out because they don't want to screw up. They have started some new courses in elementary school this year aimed at getting students familiar with other cultures before introducing full-on language classes, which they hope will help remove a lot of that uneasiness.
I think all the music in FFXI is great...just not listen to it 5 years straight great. I don't think any music "lasts" 5 years, listening to it everyday, nonstop. Kinda the way MMO goes unfortunately.
I turn music on for new Missions/Quests/Zones. And when I pop in an old zone/city/area, the music gives a bit of nostalgia until I re-turn it back off![]()
I make it slightly over six minutes. I do wonder if it's timed for the ride from the stable to the nearest crag. That's a pretty easy ride from Sandy to Holla, but you have to be going some and getting the best possible path with no mistakes to make Dem or Mea from the stables (never quite managed either) in that time.
