I also got that from newsletter although I'm in alpha, I wonder if I will have to sign for beta too. However the form seems almost the same old one?

It wasn't an email for Beta sign-ups. It was just there standard XIV newsletter talking about site updates and it included a link to the Beta signup at the bottom like they all have.

SE-Dev1: Hey! We have a big problem!!!

SE-Dev2: What? What are you talking about?

SE-Dev1: I was up all night reading forum posts, a lot of FFXI players are dissing Lalafel! They think they look weird, creepy, have big butts and narrow shoulders and are not as cute as Tarutaru from XI!!!

SE-Dev2: Really? They just need to get use to them. Sure they look different than Taru but if a person played as Taru in XI they'll play as Lalafel in XIV.

SE-Dev1: No! that's the thing they are talking about trying other races than Lalafel!!! A lot are even talking about playing as Roegadyn!!!!

SE-Dev2: You're crazy that would never happen.

SE-Dev1: Here look, I'll pull up some of the posts.

a few moments later...

SE-Dev2: HOLY SHIT!! WTF, we have to so something and fast! I'm calling a meeting!

Hours pass as the FFXIV Dev Teams franticly brainstorms...

SE-Dev2: So, what can we possibly do to fix this!

An uneasy silence stifles the air in the conference room when the utterance of a single word dispels the sense of impending doom...that word.... Mustache.

SE-Dev1: Mustache...

SE-Dev2: Mustache...

the cry rings out in unison....Mustache!!!!!!

much joy and celebration took place for they knew if there were one thing that could save the Lalafel race it was the power of the Mustache! Awesomely huge Mustaches.

Don't underestimate the power of the Mustache! The mustache transcends gender.

How is this possible you ask? Woman don't(absolutely shouldn't) have mustaches so how can it save the Lalafel females?

Simple, the Mustache is the ultimate symbol of Machismo. Lalafel males now process two characteristics proven to attract the opposite sex, youthful good looks and the proverbial honor badge of masculinity.

Lalafel males are cute, young, energetic, mischievous and last but not least drop dead sexy sporting the Mustache. They exist in a paradoxical state unachievable my mere mortals. Every boy Lalafel wants that "stache" and every girl Lalafel wants to right there next to that boy with the "stache".

Some new info from famitsu:

* The Beta version will see some system changes that will make it so that you can more easily string together your attacks.
* The alpha test had bad tempo with insufficient explanations. They've made some revisions to the beta, resulting in a completely different system.
* It will be easier to save up Gil.
* You remember that amazing comparison shot showing how much better the beta looks compared to the alpha? It seems that the beta uses a different technique for its shadows. The alpha version used something called "Project Shadows" while the beta version uses "Depth Buffer Shadows."
* The city of Limsa Lominsa will have two levels.
* There will be a robust log filter in place. This is something that wasn't finished in time for the alpha.
* They're readying something large scale for your home, which functions like FFXI's Mog House.
* They'll soon be adding alpha testers as part of the new "alpha 2" phase. They've already selected the participants via drawing!
* As you play the game, you'll be able to freely change the god that you select during character making.
* Vehicles for FFXIV include Chocobo, horse driven carriage, boat, and air ship.
* You'll be able to select different colors for your equipment.

That is huge news, check out an article that talks about what might be in for us when it comes to new systems like home areas if FFXIV.
I thought it would be a great idea for MT, although I would rather there not be any at all, its expected that some form of MT will be added to the games economy.
