Your point suffer from the same kind of tunnel visions that is present in all your post. You insist that it's "western developments" fault, but the issue is somewhere else.
Asian's mmo don't know much more success around here these days. The only reason why some of the smallest one manage to survive is because of the extremely low development cost (and usually because of the f2p/soloable nature of these games).the way western devs create MMO's is shit
Are they not successful if they don't do well in the only continent that Matters? As far as I'm aware, they're not doing too badly on their home markets. It seems to work for them.
West on the other hand can't even manage to appeal to their home audience. Not to mention Asia.
Because succesful Korean's game should be the benchmark for good games.
I still don't see where you're going with this. Korean games enjoy commercial success in korea and asia. The way they develop games is obviously not shit since it seems to work.
West on the other hand is the one with trouble making games people like to play.
Why do you think the western devs fail? I don't understand.
Hyan isnt trolling, you're giving him far too much credit.
If low development cost games with ton of solo grinding is the way to go, the solution is in the opposite direction of what you're usually asking for.I still don't see where you're going with this. Korean games enjoy commercial success in korea and asia. The way they develop games is obviously not shit since it seems to work.
West on the other hand is the one with trouble making games people like to play.
Not that I think this is the solution.
There's no way asian mmo's are successful in the east mostly due to art style and the emphasis on PVP. Nah.
It must be the awesome attention they put on content.
While i agree that western MMO's have horrible art styles and bland textures, let's not get crazy. All you have to do is make some pretty anime characters and toss on a frilly cute dress with an adorable sidekick pet and the asians will eat that shit up, along with the westerners that think they're "asian". Don't get me wrong, i love that shit too, but at least i understand that east lacks in content while west lacks in art.
I still don't understand what hyan is saying.
Fuck that, almost of the interesting content I've actually seen/played came from asian MMOs. Games like Drift City, PSO, DFO, Vindictus, Granado Espada, lolFFXI all were tons of fun to play in their peak and had something or were doing something that nobody else was doing, and it was working. The only western MMOs I've ever gotten that feeling from were D&D Online when it came out and, to a lesser extent, Vanguard (mostly thanks to the crafting system, though I love the way they implemented the Bard class).
If I could get Vanguard crafting, korean art, D&D quests/environment interaction and vindictus/GE interesting gameplay, that'd be something to play.
Are we talking about success based on revenue or critical acclaim? I'm pretty sure there's a "Western" MMO that shits all over the entirety of anything Asia has put out - ever -, if we're going based on revenue, and a case could be made for it even on critical acclaim.
Not that I'm willing to feed Hyan's trolling hunger to make a case for it. I'm just surprised the mods haven't jumped back into purging this thread since its woefully off-topic of actual XIV news (because there never is any).
Edit: Daily double.
Hyan is an annoying troll, I guess people are so bored in this section that they love to feed him.
