    Removed the derail with my magic powers, so don't feel bad if your post is gone. To answer Celeras, yes, Famitsu is available here today and I'll get to work on it once I get home.

    Elmer, thank you for the updates and translation. I notice the links say to go back to the original site for Sage Sundi's press conference, "In its entirety". Does this mean that some is still left to be translated?

    Much of the presentation was for an audience unfamiliar with FFXI. I put up the history of RMT tactics on JPB and how Sundi addressed FFXIV on Zam, which are the two sections of most interest. By the entirety, I meant you can view every single slide from the PowerPoint, whereas other JP media sites left a bunch out.

    Sorry to burst some bubbles, but FFXIV is not in Famitsu this week. We'll have to wait for Dengeki, which comes out tomorrow.

    You could at least have left the donation of myrrh for Corinth. :/ Hrmph! Hrmph I say!

    Elmer is God. Even if well intentioned, you can not better God's work. You can deliver some myrrh to Corinth though.

    Dengeki - Interview with Tanaka and Komoto
    (Dengeki, Sept. 25)
    A look into some more specific aspects of FFXIV, such as character customization, the role of crafters, Guildleve and graphics.

    Discussion on this topic got long, so I moved the posts into a new thread.

    You can continue the discussion here: Dengeki (9/25) Interview Discussion

    A Pleasant Chat with Tanaka (Unrated Extended Edition)
    (Vana'diel Tsuushin, Volume 8)
    The complete footage from interviews with Tanaka and Komoto that were featured in October's Famitsu Wave. A lot of the interview content is restated information, so I try to focus on what might be new and interesting at this point.

    GAME Watch Interviews Tanaka and Komoto at TGS

    GAME Watch got an interview with Tanaka and Komoto at TGS. They talk about the trailer, classes, computer specs, and the beta. Once again, not a lot of very detailed information, but more than anybody has been expecting to come out of TGS.

    Where did you see something about skillchains? I guessed I missed that.

    I don't understand why they are building for DX9. Isn't DX10 automatically backwards compatible for computers that can't support it?

    Also not included in the demo was the ability to do skillchains, which will also be a part of FFXIV. However, due to a different battle system, the way skillchains are done is also expected to change drastically. There may be a way to do solo skillchains in the future, but for now they are focusing on chains you have to build with other people.
    Hurray.

    Hi Kawfee! Long time no see. How are things going?

    DirectX - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
    However, the Direct3D 10 runtime in Windows Vista cannot run on older hardware drivers due to the significantly updated DDI, which requires a unified feature set and abandons the use of "cap bits".

    more like 2002 called lol..... Directx9 is 8 years old when FFXIV gets released "SE: we will use latest tech" was a lie

    After all it's expected because they HAVE to build Directx9 for Windows XP/Consoles users since Directx10/11 is only available on Windows Vista and Windows 7 (Vista supports 11 too)

    Instead of doing 2 builds "one for PC and one for consoles" they will use 1 build only shared between PC and Consoles

    While they promise "improved" textures for the PC version I'd say this is nothing more than a pure lie, if they could have improve the textures they would have done that on the console version too, what is going to happen is PC version will have normal textures while the console version will get gimped textures to improve the frame rate.

    Freaking World of warcraft use Directx9 and it's super old game lol.....

    Anyway people do not need to panic the game still looks really pretty but do not expect the PC version to look any different from the PS3 version expect better frame rate and higher resolution.

    Also this part of the interview was weird.
    ========================================
    the game is being developed with DirectX 9 in mind. They looked into DirectX 10 and the machines currently available on the market as well. In the end, they decided that DirectX 9 was the best choice. Tanaka says they will also work on how to incorporate new technology in the future.
    ========================================

    Future expansions will use better technology?

    Sup Alpha, damn haven't seen you in forever.

    I guess I thought DX10 was backwards compatible because there are games out there, like Company of Heroes, that are DX10, but you can play them on XP and it uses DX9.0c or something instead. Actually, in thinking about, I believe the game was originally only DX9, and they patched in DX10 compatibility. That could be an option for SE, I'm sure.

    And, more to the point... it looks really good in the screenshots, if they didn't tell you what DirectX it was using, would you even care? Game looks good to me.

    Thanks for the quote about the skillchains, Kuro, I'm really glad to hear that they are bringing back the team focus in combat.

    Pretty sure that's exactly what they said they were doing; writing the game for DX9 but leaving the extensibility in their game engine to patch in DX10/11 compatibility as it becomes the norm for your average system.

    I foresee that the dev team's response to any question why "X" feature isn't added will be PS3 limitations.
