Yes, I'm the idiot because I'm suggesting you might get addicted by dabbling in something that is known to be incredibly addictive.
Do you know why people do heroin? Because it's fucking awesome. You know why people don't do heroin? Because it's fucking dangerous.
Silly me for suggesting that maybe you're overestimating your willpower, and pointing out that literally millions of people have gotten similarly hooked. But hey, you're different, right?
Its not 100% self control- addiction is addiction.
The best way I can describe it to non smokers:
You know you're hungry, because you feel hungry. Your body knows how to get rid of that hungry feeling, and when you're starving, that's all you can think of doing to rectify that.
You know you're thirsty, because you feel thirsty, your body knows THAT feeling, and how to get rid of that. Subconsciously your body knows you won't get rid of your thirst by eating a cracker, and you won't get rid of hunger (for good, at least) by drinking water.
When you're addicted to smoking, and you don't smoke, its the same thing. Your body feels something, and knows how to get rid of it, and its a severe... want. Need. IDK. Its not just, hey, I think I'll have a smoke.. or perhaps nah, nevermind. Its fking tough
Edit: AV, I liked your postThumbsup
I don't disagree with what you said I disagree with how you worded it because you take one over generalization and counter it with another. And Heroine and tobacco are two completely different substances. Different stuff has different levels of addiction.
And different people have different tendencies to be addicted too.
Someone who is easily addicted will get addicted to anything even non chemical stuff. Some people are just more likely to become addicted. And yes FYI I do not have an addictive personality I smoked about a pack a day when I first got into college for about 6 months and also smoked pot frequently and then one day quit. I never ever felt like I needed to smoke or felt that "hunger" or anything.
Get some self control. I tried heroin once and that shit was like an orgasm in my veins and never again.
Pussys.
You smoked a pack of day but never felt the need to smoke a cigarette?
Hm.
Nope. I honestly and truly smoked while I was in college because nicotine does make you feel better and calm but I would sometimes smoke and sometimes not. I exaggerated a little bit I never smoked a full pack a day steady.
My point was that I never felt compelled to smoke and never felt that "hunger" some people who smoke if they don't or can't for some reason it hurts or bothers them like not being able to drink when thirsty or not being able to eat when hungry. That is addicted. It is possible for some people to smoke and not be addicted and not feel those things.
I was going to cut and paste the definition of anecdotal evidence from wiki, and it turned out to be even greater than I had hoped.
Anecdotal evidence - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
How great is it that the example it cites is actually about health and smoking? I fucking love the internet.Evidence, which may itself be true and verifiable, used to deduce a conclusion which does not follow from it, usually by generalizing from an insufficient amount of evidence. For example "my grandfather smoked like a chimney and died healthy in a car crash at the age of 99" does not disprove the proposition that "smoking markedly increases the probability of cancer and heart disease at a relatively early age". In this case, the evidence may itself be true, but does not warrant the conclusion.
I understand the concept about anecdotal evidence but the funny thing is that lump statements like the one you made are just as retarded as anecdotal evidence.
Addiction - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hey look I can quote the wiki too! I must be super intelligent.
You focused in on the anecdotal story and completely missed the point of my post. Good Job. Go back re-read and then formulate a thought based on what I was actually posting instead of trying to appear smarter by quoting the wiki without even understanding why.
Again I will re-iterate not all people automatically become addicted to addictive substances. Not all people have the same reaction to smoking and become addicted. The burden of proof is on you. Show me evidence that everyone who smokes even casually will become addicted.
Note: I am NOT saying "Nicotine is not addictive."
I've smoked for 6 or 7 years now and never got addicted. I've never smoked more than a pack every two or three months, usually much less than that.
all you need is one example of anecdotal evidence to prove that cigarettes aren't always addictive. now, no idiot in their right mind would argue that they're never addictive, but that's a different story.
I've actually wondered how I never got addicted to cigarettes. I'm really not sure. I've just never had an urge to smoke, I only do it when I'm drinking, and even then only once in a while.
Thank you Yuri that is exactly what I have been saying. I never said cigarettes are never addictive I just said that they are not always addictive.
people who say nicotine is more addictive than opiates have obviously never been addicted to both opiates and nicotine >_>
Tobacco is awesome! I'm probably addicted. But I do enjoy smoking, I don't just NEED to smoke. I'm awesome!
