Important yes. But saying screw the gameplay is taking its importance to far. If the gameplay is fresh and unique, an average or generic story is no reason to skip the game.

Leanne's voice is great
I THINK YOU MAY HAVE TAKEN WHAT WELT SAID TOO LITERALLY.
Spoiler: show
Certainty possible. Have a cold and have been up most of the past two nights, so running a bit slow in the head.
First review I've noticed so far
http://www.gametrailers.com/video/re...nance-of/63361
review is spot on, the battle system is pretty unique and fun once you get used to it. just don't get into a random battle before the tutorial or you might game over right there
As I said, this should be here from Gamefly tomorrow or Saturday. I am thinking that if i like it i may just keep it for about $39. Was wondering for those of you that have the guide, is it good? This seems like the kind of game where having a guide really couldn't hurt.
The review wasn't too bad, though it is a shame that Story got such a low score compared to the other factors.
Battle scene - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kR5GnO3agLo
All that running back and forth, sweeping motions, flips.. It's like permanent summoning sequences from ffviii, and I'm thinking Eden.
Someone else on the previous page posted footage of ingame animations outside of battle, and that says what you need to know about that. The voice acting, lip sync, actual expressions.
Reading the basic story wiki, my initial thought is; wasn't this game called Oni?
Lip syncing is HORRIBAD... but I don't care. Is that odd? I don't know, with games like this that were clearly made with the Japanese market in mind foremost I am a bit more forgiving of lip sync issues.
If i remember right this has the Japanese Audio option so I will likely just go that route, then lip sync is a moot point.
Pass on this...a shame. Oh well, I got FF13 a week late due to vacation and it is ultra awesomeness.
At least give it a rental/pick it up when it drops.
Why? Both the videos in this thread make it look like something overflown from my toilet
because maybe 2 random videos isn't a good sample to base your judgment on? because maybe the few bucks to rent it is worth it since it might be good, as most reviews indicate? I don't know. I'm not saying you will like it, or that you have to like it, but given the mostly positive reviews etc isn't it worth a chance?
Gameplay is all I care about any more. Most RPG stories today are terrible or just average, and I find myself looking forward to the battle scenes the most. Last time I actually enjoyed both the story and the gameplay in a game was Lost Odyssey, and before FFXIII the last game's combat I vastly enjoyed was Last Remnant. I'll probably pick RoF up once I'm done maxing everything in XIII, as the combat looks really, really intriguing.
This is EXACTLY how i feel. Lost Odyssey was really the last game I was completely and hopelessly enjoying every time i picked it up. I would actually think about playing it while i was at work. That may seem sad, but i think it is MORE sad that it is the last game that caused that feeling.
I want another Lost Odyssey god damnit. FFXIII is wonderful, but I am already feeling stuck in the grind. I plan on nabbing Magna Carta 2 at some point, used, if only because Ihave been a fan of Hyung Tae Kim's artwork since War of Genesis III days...
RoF seems like it will keep my interest due to difficulty and battle originality. I must be much more forgiving than most of you though, because the graphics aren't as horrid as most people seem to think. I like the steampunk/grungy style overall.
nice link a video with nothing but animations and nothing about strategy and what you have to actual do during battle.
So the general response from people here is positive? Out here on Friday, still undecided whether or not to get on release.
I am liking it so far. It is fairly complex initially, when you are trying to understand the way things go battle-wise but once you do it is pretty fun.
My take on a few of the more prevalent gripes:
1) Lip Syncing - I have JP Voices on and so... looks just fine to me =P
2) EVERYONE IS JUMPING AROUND IT IS WIERD! - Yup it is. It is also different, and not annoying at all like i thought it might be.
3) Looks nowhere near as good as FFXIII - Nope, it doesn't. I don't care about that either. It has its own 'style' and it is something that resonates with me for whatever reason. Steampunk Future Style. I like it.
4) Story is crap! - Can't say yet. I will say though... on the 3rd chapter and I don't really feel like I know what the fuck is going on. They just haven't really SAID what is going on... seems like they are trying to slowly draw you in. That may or may not be the downfall story wise. Time will tell.
Yeah, I really don't agree with a lot of the major QQs out there. I am having fun with the game, it is different, and while it could end up getting old... right now it is unique and i like it.
This is a great game. Any hardcore RPG fan should pick this up because there's a lot of content and the battle system is really fun. There are 10 harder difficulties in total:
Normal
Hard
Advance
Professional
Hurt Me Plenty
Supremacy
Legendary
Mythology
Zenith
Anyone who's judging this game by videos alone is doing themselves a disservice. I wasn't fond of the battle system when I saw the videos but once I tried it, I was hooked.
