InfinityX Network - 100mbps Home Connection

I work for Comcast as a day job, and we had a meeting about a week ago to introduce us to the new Infinity X wide band network structure they're in the middle of implementing which is going to offer home customers 100 mbps down speeds, and unlimited bandwidth.

They didn't tell us a price point, but I've heard rumor of about 100 bucks a month. In my area, the current speeds are 16 to 22 mb down.

Thoughts? Would you pay that much for that speed? I personally couldn't afford that when 22 works fine, but maybe someone can justify that in their budget.

I don't have a need for it.....yet! I just moved to a new place, and part of our deal with going through a Comcast agent was this 100mbps upgrade for free for 1 year when it comes out. (Not totally free, just what we are already paying with the upgrade difference free)

i'd pay like $60-70 for it but $100 is a bit high, honestly.

sounds nice, but the price is a bit steep, I'm already getting 18mbp/s down and unlimited band and I don't really see the need to increase any further cause I'm not lagging or anything in FF or any other game I'm playing and the time it takes to load the Fuck or Duck thread is just about instant.

Just because people pay AT&T that much for a month's worth of shitty service doesn't mean they'll pay Comcast that much. The reputation differences there are quite glaring.

Too steep to get comcast again..... I dont see a need to pay $100 for a "unlimited" service they are probably just going to tweak/throttle/limit anyways.

Random question... do you work out of the engineering facility at Bishop's Gate? I work for a vendor and supported Comcast until recently, and I basically lived there.

On topic, I can understand the rationale for fatter and fatter pipes, especially with more video content coming to the forefront on the Internet, but for the time being I'd be more interested in what they can't provide... a low latency service.

Removing the bandwidth cap would be nice, but I already don't have enough time to watch ~200GB of content in a month (assuming that some of my bandwidth isn't used for downloading), and the only thing more speed would buy me is more content on my HDDs faster.

I wouldnt pay Comcast for a cure for cancer. Fuck Comcast. Bandwidth restricting, shitty customer service, and network instabilities that can only be justified via gross incompetance or pure malace.

    Fuck fuck fuck Comcast.

I've had Comcast for two years and I have never had a problem. O_o In fact, I always thought I had good service.

Honestly I'd want to know what the upload speed is. I would rather have something like 30 down 30 up than to have 100 down and 2 up. It seems like you would never actually need 100 down, unless you have like 8 downloads going at once all over 1MBps, and still wanted to play a game.

Out of Cherry Hill Office, in B2B account management. I manage apartments complexes.

Pretty much. The fact that they list "unlimited bandwidth" as a selling point makes me sick. I'd rather pay $100/month for 50/20 FiOS than this shit.

It's probably to combat the crappy thing Time Warner was trying to do with charge per usage.

I'd much rather see options like this over all companies jumping on the charge per usage bus.

I've had good experiences with Comcast where I am since they took over a non-shit cable company down here in Spring of 2008. The infrastructure is still good and they can't oversell to their normal ratios just because there's not enough people. I think I'd pay for the 100MB only if they didn't do any shaping/throttling/usage caps.

On the plus side, there's a local telco installing FTTH near me that will be offering 100MB for approximately $70. I just need to move somewhere they will have service once my lease is up in July of 2010 >_>

Actually, as I said, I deal with apartments for Comcast. Most FiOs installs end up using our existing lines out of pure laziness - resulting in fiber from the drop to coax at the house, bottle necking the signal to the exact same as it would be from Comcast anyway.

Then, when I go out on an audit, and cut the then active lines since they arent active comcast subscribers but showing a solid signal - they blame my company. Thanks Verizon!

If you live in a development, apartment or townhouse - go find your gigantic, hideous FioS box.

    Looks like this:

Cant? Congrats. You have comcast and are being billed for fiber optic to the house from Verizon.

I've had my service cut off twice by Comcast for overuse (I was pirating...but I had my up and down stream encrypted), they just cut me off and said I was using too much bandwith, affecting my neighbors, lol. if you want super internet move to Sweden and get sum 40 gbps
