I finally watched The Cleveland Show pilot and found it to be ok. Nothing amazing. But I just could not believe Fox greenlighted a blatant copy of the show it spun off from. Same family set up with 3 kids that are essentially the same age as Peter Griffin's family, and Cleveland has 3 zany characters to go to the bar with, like in Family Guy. And the bear neighbor...worst idea in the show, so absolutely unfunny.

According to its wiki page, it was confirmed to have two seasons before it even aired. =/ I'm still hoping it gets cancelled before that though.

Oh, and it says there will be an episode with Kanye West in 2010....yay?

I can see it getting viewers hoping that it'll eventually be funny. That's the only reason I see anyone actually watching it.

I like 'The Family Guy'. Spent this last summer watching every one I could get my hands on. Some of them get a bit blah but in general they usually have 1 or 2 laugh out loud moments.

I don't really like Cleveland as a spin-off though. The new characters looked very slapped together at the last moment type of thing. The models were really blah and not interesting in the least. I thought I was watching the cartoon version of Fat Albert for a moment or two.

I would have liked to see The Grim Reaper get a spin-off from 'The Family Guy'. He is a great character and totally underused by the show. He'd have made a great new series. But perhaps I just like Terry Pratchett too much.

I think the only character from Family Guy that could remotely do well on their own is... well... no one. Quagmire would be more interesting than Cleveland but would get old quickly. Joe and Bonnie couldn't do it. Herbert the Pervert would get old(er). Brian would be terrific but he's too close to the rest to really be separate. The Bartender (Phil, I think) at the Clam would be ideal as they could have the others stop in while still showcasing other underused characters.

Cleveland is just the worst choice for a standalone character. His shining moments really only happen when Peter or Quagmire are around.

After thinking it through, I think the only explanation is that The Cleveland Show was made in order to make the Simpsons seem funny again.

First thought seeing it. I didn't get a laugh out of it at all. I do like Seth's drawing style for some reason but his comedy is just lacking and always has been since Family Guy got put back on the air.
