    Ripping streamed music

I couldn't find anything with the search so here's the question. Does anyone know of a program that you can use to rip music from youtube and also save streamed music?

    Thanks in advance

For ripping youtube, etc. videos to mp3s, I just use Convert Myspace Video and Youtube to Mp3! Only at VidtoMP3.com

For ripping music, you could just use Audacity. Set input to stereo mix (or, in Vista, set "What-U-Hear" to default recording device), hit record, hit play, and then just stop recording once you get what you want.

I was looking more for a program that you can just use on your computer instead of a site that can track what you're doing. Does Audacity pick up and random sounds such as mouse clicks and other window sounds when it records?

Unfortunately yes, and the only solution I can think of would be to turn off all windows sounds when recording. For streaming video-to-audio, you could get the Downloadhelper addon for Firefox, install Converthelper, and convert everything to .wav (and then use iTunes or something to convert to .mp3.)

I like the Firefox addon idea. Sounds a lot less messy and hassel than Audacity. Thanks for your help.

Yes, it picks up EVERYTHING that plays out of your speakers. That's why it's so useful. I turn off all my interface sounds in Windows anyway when I do an install. Just close your IM programs while doing the recording, or turn off the sound effects since you're right at the computer. Otherwise, there's always my solution of a second computer (since I have four) and use one for that while your other programs are on a main one.
