    Will this laptop run FFXI?

I've had this laptop for a couple months now. Initially just to mess around w/ things on the go but do you think FFXI will run on this? I'm not too familiar with laptop chipsets, so I guess I'm trying to figure out if the graphics chipset will run the game. Everything else should be fine since my desktop I built a couple years ago has lower specs than this laptop...

Yes, it will. But not for dual boxing or high quality.

Won't be good @ dualboxing due to the CPU or chipset? I've been 2boxing fine with this machine for some time now.

My current desktop that I built in May '07:
    CPU: AMD Athalon 64 X2 3800+ (2.0GHz)
    GPU: nVidia GeForce 9800GT 1GB GDDR3
    RAM: 2GB DDR2
    OS: Windows XP SP3

I'd say the downfall would be mostly due to the integrated graphics on the laptop, also it's a dual core, not core2duo. Not exactly sure on the difference, just know that c2d is better xD. Your 9800gt is miles better than the integrated graphics on the laptop.

If you're running XP: Will run FFXI fine, also will dual box fine. As it's been said over and over again FFXI is CPU reliant, and that's more than powerful enough to run multiple accounts @800x600 with, better than SNES graphics. I have triple/quad boxed on my laptop with integrated graphics and an AMD dual core 64 @2.0ghz 2gigs RAM.

The main bottleneck on that is the GPU. FFXI runs on even a couple generations back of the Intel integrated, but it's not great. You'll just have to run at console-ish settings (ew) to get consistent performance.

It's not so much that FFXI is completely dependent on CPU as it is that the game doesn't take advantage of many GPU features. It still takes a semi-decent card to run it at higher res n' all. That being said, it's a 7 year old game, performance is relative.

Not all integrated graphics are created equal either. I've mostly messed with the Intel GMA X3100 in my Macbook. The 4500 in that will be better, but I don't think by a whole lot. The nVidia/ATI based solutions tend to be a good bit better.

I've said ew to integrated graphics, ever since it wouldn't run on the computer I built my sister 5 years back x.x
I guess they've come a long way though.

I have a similar question, so didnt want to make a new topic. Will this run FFXI on max settings? How about 2boxing?

to OP, I have a laptop with a bit better integrated and it's "decent", wouldn't camp kings with it but it's definitly ok to exp and random events with.

To #2, 8600M should be decent enough to run it with good settings.

Define "good". I'm not looking for "decent" graphics, I want the greatness! I have a PS2 and Xbox360 for the "average, decent, good" look. Just how well will it run with that setup? Should I be looking at other options then?

Well considering my EEEPC will "run" ffxi pretty much anything will. (it gets around 10-15 frames, maybe less in wg) but really you would be surprised.

Well FFXI can be gay with nvidia so I can't tell for sure. But max settings should be doable.

For future reference, any intel adapter above GMA 900(4~ years old) will run the game rather fine. Its extreme graphics series that causes problems.

Going to end up returning my Toshiba for this Asus instead, but not sure if this Gateway would be slightly better...
