stopped playing series 1 myself on the last 2 dungeons after it wanted virus cores from game 1 to hack one of the story dungeons gates. watched the ending of series 1 on youtube and went good god it sucked. you'd think a 80hr+ game after playing 4 volumes of it would have a epic ending.

GU on the other hand so far is awesome. just started into volume 2. I like the avatar fights. haseo having skeith as a avatar is ironic. anyone that played series 1 and watched .hack sign would know why and knows who haseo is from series 1.

anyone happen to know if the games ever really explain what happens to kite and blackrose or the other characters for that matter after series 1?

I think it's only done in a very, very vague way. I think that damn series with Shugo/Rena (can't remember the name of it) noted that one of the twins lived in the same apartment complex as BlackRose.

If you play further into G.U., it explains what happens to Elk, Wiseman and Piros, as well as Mia. Additionally, there are faint signs of what happens to Helba.

Doesn't really say much about Balmung and Orca, though. I'm trying to remember if it explains anyone else from the first series, but I'm drawing up a blank at the moment.

As far as i can remember, there is no mention of real life Balmung and Orca beyond their "cameos" in the second game. Which was all kinds of awesome, especially the first cutscene you see them in.

I cant recall anything about blackrose but kite is in the current running manga and is in the upcoming psp game.

isnt Haseo the same person who controlled Sora in //sign? Never played the game, but I remember reading up on wiki what happened to him after the anime cause it didnt explain it. Sora became skeith during the 1st ps2 series, and now is Haseo? maybe I'm recalling things incorrectly.

It was a theory that was passed around. But i'm almost certain that they're not the same person. He doesn't seem to have prior knowledge of the World, or at least he doesn't show that he does.

If you want to play the first series, only play the first one. It is the best in every way(not to say it is anything truly great.) The rest of it is just playing the same game over and over again. First one had the hardest boss at least.

I really liked the series myself, the first was overpriced imo and only should have been 2 games (it did come with a pretty cool mini-anime series which was cool though.) I really loved the anime .Hack//Sign though very entertaining. If you can get past the slightly generic level design of the series it's definitely worth playing if you like Japanese RPGs.
